I am due to go in an event in March which has given us a list of tires to choose from. I am unfamiliar with most of them having only driven on Toyo R888s. Any opinion or advice is welcome.
Oh, the event will be in a sprint format over a short amount of laps so it's no endurance.

hankook ventus z214 is probably the fastest tire of that bunch.

Thanks for that. Can't say I was thinking Hankook. I can't see that tire at tire rack for specs. I'll look around.
EDIT: Just looking at that tyre on their website, I'm guessing that they won't be allowed due to it being a '2 liner' but I can only ask.

The Toyo RA-1's are probably the best IMHO
We've run them for years and have been very happy with them
They need to be shaved to about 4/32" and will last forever...

If the Hankook Ventus is the Z214, go with it, just as fast as the R6 (as least in my hands). However, it won't do you much good in rain. In that case, go with the RA1's.

How much does your car weigh? If it's like my 3000lb 993, I'd go with the MPSC's. RA-1's are not bad, but they won't be as fast as the Michelins.

You might want to check the availability of some of those tires in the sizes that you need. Might whittle the list down quite a bit (oops, sorry about that. Are you guys allowed to have knives or is that the Brits?)

Shaved RA-1s are your best bet.

Hoosier Street TDs are fun if you have WWIDEE rims but they don't come in many sizes and take a different setup and driving method (slide it around - bias ply). The Toyo RA1 is a proven no brainer if they have your size.

Ok that's interesting. I see also that on the Tirerack comparison chart the Yoko AO48s do very well. I'm seeing this as a warm, dry track. My car weighs about 3100 with me and fuel. My rims will be 18" x 10" all round. I'm looking at getting the setup as square as possible. Maybe 285's.
Approx 500whp. From what I can tell the general consensus is that the MPSCs take too long to heat up. I've got nothing against the R888s either but I don't think they've been around in the US for very long for a good comparison?

why are you all saying ra1's, especially for the rain.

What exactly are you looking for out of the tire? Something to win or are you just doing something in a DE environment.

No kidding. Lots and lots of objective testing shows the R888 to be quicker than the RA1.

This is a new event in Australia. It gets cars together that would normally not run against one another. I was going to go in the last years event but my engine decided not to play ball. It will be in what we call a sprint setup. I would think you go out in speed groups initially do determine where you sit in the lineup and then out for short full bore sprints. Perhaps 5 laps. Best time wins. What's really odd is that they won't let rear engined cars of 6 pistons or more compete. Basically banning 911s. I'm not sure why that is apart from wanting a Jap car to win the event. I will be representing the Porsche Marque as far as I know. I'm pretty sure there were none in the first event last year. Here's a few laps of the circuit from my car a few months ago. There will be about 200 more hp in there shortly to give me more of a chance against 500hp 996tts.

heavy cars seem to do even better with the kumos. I remember seeing the heavy T1 vipers at laguna a few years ago and those things looked and felt like slicks after the qualifying session.

That's interesting Mark because I was talking to a friend in the pits last time and he had Kumos and they felt very soft. Could have been the compound but they felt a lot softer than my R888s but it was on an early 911 so they're not even heavy.
