Were you able to find out which Hankook Ventus you are allowed? If its the Z214, that's what I would pick in a heartbeat for a dry track.

On my GT3 the Michelin Cup is superior to the Toyos by at least a second a lap. If you go the R888 noe the new suggested hot pressures of 32-35 lbs - a change from their original 39-44 lbs. The R888 are horrible when new, very squirmy unless shaved.

No, not yet. I'm guessing that they won't allow these, but if all they say is 'Hankook Ventus' on the list.....well, how was I to know? They would probably still tell me sorry, bad luck. I'm guessing those Z214s are probably not sold in OZ but I'll do some more digging this week.

Bob, I've have 3 sets of the R888s and I'm not sure where that heat psi figure came from. It was never in print out here. I think it was a misprint on the US site?
I have never had mine shaved and not suffered from that squirmyness to any great degree but I don't have a lot of experience to compare them to. We have found and heard that the MPSCs take too long to get to heat?

What exactly are you looking for out of the tire? Something to win or are you just doing something in a DE environment.
RA-1's are a great, second-tier rain tire. Nowhere near as good as Hoosier wets but a decent rain tire. Not my choice for fast rubber, though.

+1. I'm amazed at the number of people recommending the RA-1's. I am not familiar with some of the other tires and have only run MPSC's, Hoosier R6's, Toyo RA-1's and BFG R-1's. The MPSC's are not that much slower than the Hoosiers.

R6's are fast in less than half a lap, while the MPSC's require a bit more time to heat up. I do think this characteristic is completely overblown, at least in my 3,000lb car. On the warm-up lap, I always accelerate and brake to warm up the tires and have had excellent grip on the first lap.

All I do is DE's and I'm somewhat a newbie and I can tell that my MPSC's have warmed up to full grip after one warmup lap on a short track. Rain, that's another story....

Mark, what about the R-1s? Not that I can run them in this event but I'm thinking of what to run for the rest of the season.

I've only tried the R1's once and loved them. They are supposed to be slower and longer-lasting than the R6's, but I found them to be as equally fast and won a couple of races with them against competitors such as the old D class 964 cups (Hoosier-shod). The breakaway characteristics seemed similar, as well. Some have also found them to be better in higher heat conditions and less likely to go away than the Hoosiers. R1's come in slightly wider widths than the R6's, so maybe the equal grip is due less to the compound and more to the increased rubber.

+1. MPSC would be your best bet on a dry track. The RA-1 may be a tad slower, but it also will work on a wet track, assuming it's not a total downpour.

After reading comments in this thread and another one running concurrently re R888s plus one on 6speed, I am starting to think the different dynamics of the 911 vs the 951 are playing a part in these opinions also. I will have to do some more investigations to see what Ventus we can run as well.
thanks so far.

If you can get them hot the cups are probably the quickest but in that format the DZ03 would probably be best bet, you can get them in different compounds, and they warm up straight away like the R888.

Well I'd like as many to come out, but to compete. I don't care that I'm up against some fire breathing Japanese Rocket. Why not use your Evo in the middle class? Unless of course the 968 turbo will be finished?
