Default Please help - need wide racing shoes

Folks-

I need racing shoes that come in a wide fit (I am about 10.5, double width in foot size).

I realize that most of the off-the-shelf auto racing shoes only come in medium width.

Can anyone recommend a source for wide shoes? Even if I need to buy expensive ones that might require taking a mold of my foot, I would like to know of any companies that sell these shoes.

Thanks in advance - Gerry

Stand21 will build anything for you.

Also, true driving shoes aren't meant to be comfortable while standing up and walking around. I can't stand walking around in mine but in the car they are extrememly comfy and have no extra material that can get caught up on things.

Thanks for the reference. I have used Stand21 for other Porsche racing gear.

Having been an avid outdoor rock climber for years, as well as pro racer, I realize the shoes are meant to be tight. However, my feet are anatomically wide, so even a double wide shoe makes a tight fit on me.

There was an Italian shoe company that made fit-to-order shoes. Does anyone know the name?

Thanks again, in advance.

Have you contacted Piloti? some of there shoes are wider than others. Stand 21 makes some superior stuff.

I have a size 13 foot that is wide also. I find Piloti's are comfortable but I just use them for DE's not racing.

I wear a size 13 extra wide. The basic Simpson race boot has very little structure, and fits my foot like a glove.

Last year I burned some time at the CDOC store at VIR trying on new race boots. They were all waaay too narrow, until I tried the Adidas Feroza boot which fit perfectly. I've been wearing 'em for a season, and really like 'em.

Agree with Tony. I have a wide foot and I love my Adidas boots. They are pricey (~$250) but worth it.

I have a set of Bell hi tops and I'm quite comfortable in them. I not only have a wide foot (E width) but also a freakishly high instep which eats up width.

Thanks everyone for your helpful advice. I am going to try the Adidas Feroza boot first, as suggested by some of you, then consider custom-made shoes as a last resort.

It has been very frustating, especially in pro racing, to either be using shoes that are so tight your feet are constantly in agony in endurance racing, or use a less than optimal shoe like a running shoe or a slipper.

Thanks once again, and happy new year to everyone.
