Not wishing to open up the usual engine oil debate, how much difference does the tranny oil make compared to the engine oil in their respective housings? Assuming that we're not dealing with the same forces or heat, why is it such a higher visc level? I mean the previous posters who sound experienced seem to swear by certain brands much like engine oils. Many of the LSD units that are made are actually manufactured in Australia. Guess I should just go ask the horse.

Guards, who makes their own diffs, indicated that the fluid used is critical when dealing with race cars.

The 944 transmissions take right around 2 qts. Full is measured as something like 6-8mm below the lip of the fill hole.

Actually Guards have some of their parts, if not whole LSD units, made in Melbourne, Australia.
...and before anyone asks, no we can't get them cheaper here. In fact you guys get a better price in the US and we deal directly with the manufacturer. Ouch!
