Default Another Entry in ALMS GT2????

What is it? I'm sure somebody here knows somebody who knows.

Stole this link from the other thread, but at the bottom is says someone else is coming to GT2 other than Corvette and BMW. Who is it? LF-A for real?

That would be nice, but I doubt Porsche, now with controlling interest of Audi, would allow that to happen.

Of course some customers could buy and try one. But they made it seem like it would be a factory backed effort.

Could be Aston Martin with V-8 Vantage.

Audi with R8 perhaps in 2010.

Being hearing some rumblings about Nissan, but they're only rumors, no confirmation from anyone that would make me put money on it in Vegas.

there have been some american people unsuccessful in getting the lambo gallardo track-worthy, although reiter in germany has done pretty well. google Reiter Engineering

audi is not likely bringing cars to USA and won't entertain selling them to privateers, let alone the whole porsche thing. super hail mary chance- audi might bring R8s to grand-am since it would run against gt3 cup cars (and the R8 is designed as a gt3 after all...)

aston- has proven to be uncompetitive with drayson but maybe the speed GT aston team has shown some hope?

nissan can legally run the GTR with turbos because the capacity is less than 4.0L. their main issue with the gtr is that AWD is not allowed per ACO rules.

maserati is working on a car...

lexus...they've gone back and forth on development still, maybe?

Just convert to RWD...it's not like GT2 cars run stock diffs, transmissions, axles, or suspension uprights anyways.

I know- it's just that the whole main selling point of the GTR is the "super AWD" or attessa or whatever it's called. the supertransmissiongizmobutlaunchingbreaksit thing.

The people who buy cars only for something like that won't know the difference when it's on the track anyway. I don't think AWD Porsche Turbo sales suffered because the old IMSA GT2 Porsches weren't AWD.

I dont think that chassis can be made competitive in GT2, it's big and heavy. There are no other 2x2 based chassis in the class.

I doubt it's all that big and heavy when the AWD and all of the electronics are stripped out. It's 130 pounds heavier than the BMW M3 in street trim. The BMW already has to add weight back in order to meet it's race weight in ALMS. The modern heavier chassis don't require as much cage as cars once did, even thought the final result is more rigid (as seen by the evolution of the BMW Motorsport cage design over the years from the E30 to E36 to E46 and now the E92 M3).
