I've got a similar car...an MX5 cup.

pros
really cheap to run- light on brakes and tires
really cheap to fix- cheap bumpers and panels
really forgiving at 9/10ths
easy to find parts and entire cars
small, light, easy to transport
lots of races available
learn to race, REALLY RACE.

cons
people on rennlist will make fun of you
you will have money left over to fix crash damage (which is fairly inevitable)

I definitely have come a long way in a short time by racing sissy cars (mazdas) and have had more chances to run them- PCA is to be honest a really small schedule. NASA and SCCA have spec miata classes and have races all over the country all year. I've had 7 races (is that right?) in the last 2 months alone.

I didn't drive it (though it was offered), but my student at VIR had a brand new Miata race car w/supercharger. From the right seat, it felt terrific.
I found myself musing about the attractions of a less expensive track car...
Lots of advantages to them, especially if you are going to race.

Seems fitting that I come in below the GR picture post, as I'm likely the only person here who had the misfortune of knowing him for a time. Before he dug himself into his grave.

Back to the car. Absolutely the most frustrating car of my stable. I can go out in a 30 minute period and run on pace instantly with the Radical, yellow car, RSA, whatever almost routinely. Then get in the SM and be 3-5 seconds off what the previous owner would routinely do. Granted, it held 4 lap records for a time when he won a pro championship with it in '05, but still........... Certainly an acquired taste.

Great enduro car, bang fest in a sprint.
Horses for courses; can be dreadful at some (horsepower) circuits, more fun on a handling track.
