Roll Call TWS 12/6

Yep, I'm one of the noobs around here and last weekend at TWS was an experience I won't ever forget. This was my first DE and the experience was simply AWESOME!
I got thru both days with bending my instructor, myself or the car. Things did get a little exciting at T-5 on Sunday after a pass between T-4 and T-5. The pass was safe, but made a mess of speed management, tried to save the line and spun off track inside 5. Lesson learned. Throw away the turn. I had two passes there earlier but were on the right and on line. This pass was given on the left and DI said take it. I just blew it at the end.
Anyway, attended all the meetings, classes, and exercises. My DI was Paul Norwood and I could not have asked for a better first time experience. Paul did a great job and his enthusiasm was surely contagious. The icing on the cake was when he took me out in a Yellow, as I recall, in my car. His car was out of commission. What an eye opener that was. He demonstrated the things I had been struggling with and showed me the lines and techniques I was having trouble with. It was now clear what he was wanting me to do at the end of 5 sessions, but I'm sure his pointers would have been lost on me if he had tried to show me earlier. Everything clicked as good as I guess it can for a Green driver after that. It was great when it came together.
More cake and icing followed when he pulled me out of the tail end of my last class and told me to get my helmet and car, if I wanted to go do a Blue checkride. Don't have to ask me twice, but as I took off for the car I was thinking , what have I gotten myself into now. He explained what he was looking for and off we went at about 90%. I was now running with drivers that were much more experienced than me. Now I had to deal with drivers passing me. I learned a lot about track presence durign that run session. It was over way too soon, as were all the sessions. The run went very well. I went off to visit with some folks and when I returned there was a Blue sticker on my windshield! It was great!
The final run was as blue and I had the best run of the weekend. It was a trip. Thanks to all the volunteers that work hard to put these events on. Thanks especially to Instructor Paul Norwood, Class Instructor Stan Wenger, the instructors out at the braking exercise areas, my mentor (great program) Steve Thorton (now there's a piece of work...sorry Deep UV...couldn't pass it up), Mike Globe and Richard Jackson. I can't leave out my best friend and 'crew chief', Shannon, who flew down from Ohio (Mid Ohio track gal) to share my first DE with me. Nothing beats sharing an experience like this with your best friend, even if she can outdrive you.
I'll see you Feb 7th if work doesn't get the way. Thanks again for a great time.
Cheers!
Lynn

Can't stop grinnin'.......
I was very impressed with how well the DE was run, given the number of cars that were running. Hats off to the volunteers that make it happen so smoothly, or at least it seemed smooth to me. I forgot to mention the Green driver meeting that was held at the hotel after registration. That was a good ice breaker and helped us all to get a better handle on what to expect Saturday morning.
Way to go deep_uv on your bump up to White!
Yep, I'll be back, thanks to a great first experience.
