Default Summit Point Friday at the Track 9/12/08

I just did my first track day at summit point last Saturday and had a blast. It was pouring rain and I think that made it even more fun. I didn't drive my 944 but I rented a Spec Miata from Brett de Pedro at the track. I ended up learning quite a bit about driving and had a ton of fun. I really had a great time passing some M3's and other higher dollar cars. Was anyone on this forum there as well? I saw a red 944 turbo spin out right in front of me, was that anyone on here?

Anyways, I think I am going back and going to do another FATT on October 24, and maybe sign up for the SCCA school as well. I am also considering buying a spec miata and not buying a nicer street car (was planning on getting something a little more modern than my 944). This is probably the most fun I have ever had and now, I can't even stop thinking about it. Any opinions on spec miatas or anything else are welcome. I just wanted to reminisce on the past weekend and have some people to talk about it to.

I was there in the red 996 aero trying to manage grip on hoosiers.

Looking at my video I managed about 2-3 reasonably quick laps before the rains came.

Scott here is some video from one of my sessions before the rain. What color miata were you in, I'll see if I have any footage.

Anyone have video from the event that was shot with a decent camera mount?

That was a good video Paul. You were going a hell of a lot faster than I was that is for sure. I kept getting stuck behind a v6 mustang, nissan 300zx, and some other guys that just were going slow. The rain sure made things get interesting, couple of people spinning and I almost spun myself on turn 9 I think (the one right before the pits). I got on the throttle a bit too hard there but I managed to control it and just slowed down a bit and kept on going.

Funny Tony. But you have to admit that this last mount that I tried is a ton better than what I had before.

Thanks, but those spec miata hold their own in the corners when pushed.

It got pretty slippery when the rain came down. I had my back end sliding every other corner during those sessions pretty much always ready to catch it.

BTW: racedayphotos has pictures from that event if you are interested.

Hey Paul! I 've been looking for a video that shows the new pavement. Yours would have been perfect but for the fairly significant earthquake during you run session.

Nice, didn't know about raceday photos, quick google search found them. The miata I rented had one of the lights popped up the whole time since the motor wasn't working for the pop up headlight on that side.
