my 2 sons love coming to the track with me. they think it is even cooler to leave when it is still dark out

Sounds like we have a similar history (you just had to put in that part about reflexes, didn't you). I can add boat racing...inboard hydroplanes. Racing will certainly change your family life, which is what I believe you meant by "take a toll".
