Greg, thanks for this great info on the best line from an off at T15 to re-entry at T11. This is a whole 'nother aspect to lap times I've never considered. Do you have tips like this for offs at any other turns? I'm thinking that the re-entry line from a T2 off (CCW) could really make or break total lap time...

Ken,

Assume you have no video to post (for instructional purposes of course)? Pitty only the minor screw-ups (like Greg's and mine) end up on tape.

This happened on Sunday right? Sorry to hear about it. Hope you get everything sorted out.

FWIW, going CCW it is possible to completely skip T3. Things get a little bumpy past trackout on T2, but no matter how hard you try to slow down, you won't slow much. Trust me on this one.

There is also a shortcut on Rattlesnake at MSR. I really don't recommend it though...

Here ya go... Going CCW, between T3 and T4, make a hard left and then rejoin the track between T9 and T10. That ought to cut at least 30 seconds off your laptime....

With any luck, the flaggers won't even notice the shortcut.

You know, if one person..
just one person does it
they may think he's really sick and they won't flag him.

And if two people...
two people do it...
in harmony,
they may think they're both ******* and they won't flag either of them.

And if three people do it...
three...
can you imagine?
three people taking shortcuts,
they may think it's an organization.

And can you...
can you imagine fifty people a day?
I said fifty people a day taking short cuts around the track,
and friends, they may think it's a movement.

And that's what it is.
The Turn 3 shortcut anti-line movement.
And all you got to do to join is go off at Turn 2 the next time it come's around....

It's been done. By a green student, with an instructor we all know in the car. Instructor said "track left", and the drover thought he said "turn left", so she did. The best part of the story is that two or three other green students followed them down the cut-off road.

Classic. It's like the marching band going down the alley in Animal House...
