Default LEMANS 24 - Pick your winners

Pick your winners for this weekend's Lemans 24.

Complete entry list available here:

http://www.planetlemans.com/le-mans-2008-entry-list/

I'll go first:

Overall: Audi R10 #2
LMP1: Audi R10 #2
LMP2: Team Essex RS Spyder #31
GT1: Corvette C6R #64
GT2: IMSA Performance 911 #

In LMP1 I think Audi will pull it off again with McNish/Kristensen/Capello, they had some problems at Sebring but I still think they are more reliable than the Peugeot's. The Peugeot's are fast though so who knows?

I think Massen in the Spyder is a winning combo, hopefully they can stay out of trouble. It will be interesting to see how the other LMP2 cars like RML stack up against the Spyder throughout the race.

In GT1 I think Corvette will take the win with Beretta/Gavin/Papis. It will be nice to see them race against someone other than the #63 vette!

In GT2 I'm going with last years winners. Hopefully Patrick Long can help beat the 7 Ferraris in class and get a win for Porsche.

I'm pullin' for Patrick in GT2. There's not a nicer guy on the planet who can drive a race car the way he does. One ride with him in a Cup Car at Motorsport Ranch with a broken 3rd gear and I was totally blown away. Smoke 'em Patrick!

I have to think a Peugeot will make it and they were SMOKING fast in qualifying. So my list:

1) Peugeot
2) RS Spyder
3) Corvette
4) RSR!

(I'm too lazy to pick the teams.)

Ditto

1)Audi (not the youngsters)
2)Porsche
3)Tough one, I'm going to go with Vette even though I'm 50/50 on it
4)Porsche

Overall: I want to see Porsche be a HUGE upset and win, even though I doubt it will happen. However I think the way the Audi's boys have responded to competition and the reliability of the Peugeot I'd say it could happen, but if that happens one of the other LMP1 cars should pick up the slack. So I think its a Audi overall most likely.

Peugeot has the top 3 qualifiers, certainly one of these cars will survive to win?
Love Audi, but it will be tough to keep up this year.

1 - Peugeot
2 - RS Spyder
3 - Corvette (but would love for A/M to pull it off)
4 - Lizard #80! (Love Patrick, but the Lizards might find some magic this year?)

There was Live stream of Qualifying here, but don't know about the actual Race.

Speed TV might stream it also?

Alright, let's check back Sunday night!

I am looking at qualifying times and see that Peugeot # 7 is 2 seconds off the pace set by #8. Gene and Minassian, the lead drivers of #7, lead in the Lemans series with 2 wins, one of which with Villeneuve as third driver at SPA. Have they adopted a different set up for the race or is this the result of the #7 car being destroyed on June 1st by Gene and then rebuilt? Regardless, I pick #7 as the overall winner based on their results this year. Either Long and team or the Lizards should win GT2. No clue about LMP2. No interest in GT1.

Can't wait to watch tomorrow and Sunday

+1!

I made it to one of my "bucket list racer", GP of Monaco this year, need to make it to the other "BLR", Le Mans, next. It's a great circus and a race.

-DVR (just in case): check
-Wireless & laptop for real time race following stuff: check
-Sirloin steak, potatoes, wine & cigar: check
-Mr. Patron (to keep me awake until late/early): check

I should be pretty well set for Sat & Sun.

The RSR's are faster than the Ferrari's at Le Mans.
The problem is that the Ferrari's are able to double and triple stint their tires.
Their strategy is based on spending less time in the pits than the Porsche's.
It's going to be a monumental battle.
Hopefully the reliability and experience of the Porsche teams come though.
