Melo tied Wolf on his last flying lap (and last lap of qualifying for anyone) and even got his back end out "rally style" in one of the corners. The announcer thought that gaff was going to cost him. It might have cost him pole. It was RSR one and two until that lap!

Good to see the RSR and the RS Spyders on pole. But the de Ferren effort is impressive as hell for a first qualifying effort for a new team (car and drivers, et al). And the first five cars are all LMP2! Holy macaroni!!

Yes, I was amazed at the LMP2s. I thought this would be a P1 track all the way. Fast. One of the Audi guys was quoted as saying there were too many switchbacks which made it more difficult for the bigger cars. But.....come on. Are the P1s only designed for straight heavy tracks like LeMans? Or do they like the real slow corners so they can use their torque out of the turn.

I really think the Audis are not trying too hard in qualifying. Given that, the P2s are seriously fast. The problem for them is the Audi just has to be similar on overall lap time and just use the straights to blow by the P2 cars and hold them up through the twisty parts.

Wow.
An amazing start with Jon Field overtaking the Audi R10 TDis in his # 37 Lola B06/10 AER of Intersport Racing with Dunlops.

Watching on dvr now. What is up with Melo?
That incident was just like Sebring in that he's got no one to blame but himself. So much for big competition from Ferrari this year.
Maybe they should redesign the 430 as a rear engine car.

Great P-Car day! Now for the idiot report:
1. Melo - AGAIN!
2. Speed TV - WTF! 2nd, 3rd, & 4th in GT2 being fought over for the last 30 minutes and you don't show any of it!? Pilet (Lizard 46) moves from 4th to 2nd, Muller (F-Car) back to 4th then finishes 3rd? Werner (Farnbacher Lowes) fighting and you are showing in cockpit of P2 cars not in contention or fighting? We don't know that Werner is running on fumes? What's going on with Tafel? How did Pilet get by Tafel?
AAAAggggghhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, the whole GT2 drama went by with little notice from the commentators. Great racing from the prototypes. Acura has really come of age. A great day all around for Porsche.
