Default Which Lightweight Racing Alternator for 944/951?

What's the best one? Any Nissan/Denso or some other good lightweighies to use in a 944/951 w/ a/c delete bracket? (I'm not afraid to mill the bracket to make it fit)

how much do you want to spend?

Bosch motorsports alt : http://www.bosch-motorsport.de/conte.../html/2615.htm

here's a cheaper 7 pounder:

I haven't used any of them, just saw them on someone else's racecar build on-line.

wow the 7lb for $250 seems reasonable. cheaper than buying used and having it rebuilt.

Whatever you end up going with, please post back your results (mounting, pulley size, tensioner mounting, belt compatibility, etc.) I'd like to find a lightweight alternative too, preferably one that doesn't require much fab work.

The best is the McLaren race alternator.

I'm looking for a lightweight race alternator as well. Unfortunately I only know enough about alternators to get myself into trouble. This is for the race car that spends its life from 4000-7000RPM with not much in the way of electrical loads beyond the engine and gauges. The current alternator sits on an A/C delete bracket and over a manual steering rack.

Has anyone done this to their 944 or can offer some advice?

you can always get a larger diameter pulley on the alternator to slow it down quite a bit.

I believe that Lindsey Racing sells a light weight racing alternator that fits nicely on a 944.

I've pondered the Nissan Quest one, but the reviews are that it isn't much lighter than stock. I couldn't find one on the lindsey website that wasn't stock. I'm on a mission to drop weight for the upcoming season. I'm going to try one of the lithium iron batteries again in combination with a new lighter alternator. The Bosch Alrace looks interesting, but again I don't know if it would work with the 944.

I was looking at the lightweight batteries as well. the LIon batteries are 7lbs and have the same 14amp hours as the Odyssey battery that i have that weights about 14lbs. there is an easy 7lbs for about $400.

I wouldnt look for much savings out of the alternator. i use the GT 928 alternator which is about 4 lbs lighter, and then bolted up a larger pulley to it to slow it down by about 15%...

do you have a batterybox that you can cut out of the chassis. what about lighter weight exhaust system? 2 piece brake rotors? bumper internals removed or at least cut out? (if legal).
