Default Beware....Wait a while to download the new version of AIM Software

I didn't follow my own advice and went ahead and installed the update from AIM's site right away. WARNING! This is not a minor upgrade. This is like going from WindowsXP to Vista! It's a nightmare....

I'm trying to go back to the older version and would suggest that anyone who hasn't made the same mistake I made let a few weeks/months pass while they work out the glitches.

Good advice - I actually downloaded it but did not install it. In light of this, I will wait further...

Sorry, should have warned you.. I uninstalled it / reinstalled 2.2x and all is well. I made the even BIGGER mistake of installing RS 2.3 when it first came out and found out at the track that Race Studio would crash when it tried to create a data file from the GPS data (so I couldn't view any data at all). They patched it a couple days later but I like 2.2 better and don't care about the new "features" they implemented at this point.

2.22.10 Fred. That was the last release before 2.3.xx. I won't upgrade until 2.3 has been out for some time.

Thanks. I uploaded 2.22.08 about 2 months ago. Should i upgrade my firmware as well? If I download the firmware, will my pista recognize that new firm is ready to be installed or is it more involving?

Getting really psyched for the upcoming WG Club Race!

I just got my AIM, and I started with 2.3,

What are some of the problems you've seen? Is it buggy or just wildly different?

There are an average of 20 releases of Race Studio per year. If I remember correctly, the recent record year was closer to 30. I guess that's all that needs to be said, right?

V2.3 has some major user interface changes from the V2.2x series.

Here's a good example of a glitch... when you use the lap display and it shows all the readings for the different sensors, the readings don't load like in 2.2x until you pull up some other chart/graph. Then, even though it says it is displaying speed in mph, it's really km/h and I haven't found a way to fix it. Maddening....

Gary-

Did you export your tests to a different area on your computer and then uninstall? How did you uninstall AND save your old data?

What version do you have? I have 2.30.03. I get k/h or mph OK. I don't have track data yet, that's tomorrow. I'm just playing with some data I collected driving around.

I was surprised to find out you have to set your preferences in analysis even though you already set your preference in studio.

I just saved all the DRK files in the /Data folder and Imported what I wanted to look at. I also delete all the extra Samples and tracks that come with it to clean it up. As for the KPH glitch, i'll look up what AIM told me to do to fix it and re-post later on.

Here is the letter I wrote to AIM and the response.. It was written after they fixed the GPS glitch, think I was on version 2.30.03 by then.

Hi Michael –

I installed the latest version and now I can open my data and it creates the GPS file. Thing is, all I can see in the GPS map is Engine data no matter what I choose to view in the measures graph. The small, convenient window that used to be up in the top left of the GPS window that allowed the use of a scrolling mouse to switch channels is gone, and I find no way to do it now? Also, my GPS speed is being measured in KPH now for some reason… was MPH before (and I want MPH) and I see no way to get it back.

Thanks for any help, I attached a screen shot and the DRK file. At this point I’m going to uninstall 2.3, reinstall 2.22.10 and see what happens… I liked it and it worked.

Gary R.
==================================
Gary,
To answer your previous questions. The selection for the 3D (color) mapping of the GPS map is now done with a menu item, however the GPS window must be the focus for the new settings button to appear. In your screen shot, it was not. In regards to km/h versus MPH, this is a preference that can be changed from the File menu, but all test must be closed to do so.
