God no, I'm working about 16/7 on my merged and expanding business. But I guess we can elaborate on my initial statement for those who are curious.

Thunderhill can be (and was sorta designed to be) run both ways. Runoff curbing is iffy in the clockwise (non-normal) direction. And a couple of the turns don't make much sense going backward, either.

The following is what I understood to have happened, feel free to correct me if you were there or have any more pertinent info:

So NASA is up there with the usual complement of DE and racing. T5 (Cyclone) is rarely used on NASA weekends. They use, in both directions, a "bypass" which was built subsequent to the track's initial design and construction in '93. Apparently the Formula Mazdas get air using the bypass going backward. So they use the full track in their group. It's pretty blind that way, but manageable.

Flash forward to a regular DE group, #4 and the most advanced. A driver gets confused (?) and tries to go up the hill, apparently realizes his mistake, then corrects by riding along the dirt between the normal track and the bypass a couple of hundred feet lower on the hill. Problem. There's a temporary corner worker station, protected only by tires. NO idea what speed/force/angle he hit. But it was enough to knock the workers out, gravely injuring one and critically injuring the other.

My understanding is he attempted to correct to the correct line and lost control, spinning into the corner worker station.

They were both taken out on lifeflight. Latest news I have is that they will both recover with no lasting effects but some surgeries will be required.
(rest of the weekend was run over the route the Mazdas needed for everyone).

Now that I figured out how to post a picture, tell me where this classic is taken and what is significant about this?

yeah, man. Arentz' corner, to be exact, with Peconic Bay in the background. Significiant because it's the first appearance anywhere of a high wing.

I forgot the "significance" part. I forget, was he using the left foot yet on that wing?

I don't actually know if it was fixed or flapping, although from the angle it's at in this photo it does look like an airbrake.
