I never tried track driving w/ my glasses but noticed in everyday driving that depth perception was much better w/ my contacts than glasses (and even more of a difference at night).

I drove on the track for 8 years w/ hard contacts and never had one pop out or become dislodged while on the track (though it did occur on occasion). I started wearing contacts at age 11 and my OD sweared it slowed down my visual degradation. I've now had LASIK done and love it.

Lewis, one additional point about wrap around glasses is that they completely enclose your field of vision so you don't get the weird distortions from seeing partly through the glasses and partly outside of them (out of the corner of your eye for example).

What? Am I the only one who closes their eyes when going through the corners?

I wear my contacts now but I bought a pair of Arnette wrap sunglasses in my prescription from these guys to try this year. The thing I don't like about my regular glasses is having to turn my head so far to get things to the side of me in focus. These really help in that regard.

Cheers

I race with glasses, a balaclava, and a GP5 helmet(the wide eye port one) with no problems. My glasses are the light weight "frame-less" titanium type(Silhouette Titan).

Agreed when he can .......................
Don't wear contacts...they float around in your eye or will dry up...glasses are not a problem climbing the racing latter...btw later on lasik is the way to go...

I must be the odd man out. I race with cars, not glasses. The concept has appeal though, beer, highball, martini, water - there are probably as many classes as in PCA Club racing

No, that is what Charlie was referring to when he said he doesn't blink!

I wear glasses and current have the GP5 helemt too. I'm with the others that suggest that either his helmet is too loose or the glasses could use adjustment as a first check. That said, the glasses with flexible wire frames are a pain. I use frames with a solid, stiff frame for racing. It's much easier to get them on once the helmet is on and have not had any issues in 6 years of driving with them staying on. Sunglasses like Oakley have great frames, but make sure you get glasses that don't have "removable" lenses. Yea, it helps to clean the lenses, but they are likely to come out when not desired (as you are rushing to get he glasses on before running to grid).

I can't address the depth perception issue. I only have vision in 1 eye, so I don't have depth perception like you folk with binocular vision.

Very poor depth perception with glasses and no peripheral vision it sucks. the drivers you have listed could'nt buy time at a track like Monaco, JV was really fast on wide open flat out tracks lost time on tracks that required good depth perception...... JV also had amild prescription VS Rahal..... Rahal did well , but it
was still a handi-cap.
All top flight drivers i have ever seen had eye sight that was so good they could see the race results form the day before ...... corrective lenses are rare...

Hmm.....another GP5W wearer here, plus a couple of older Bieffes I still use. And I have mini glasses, even smaller than Bourdais. Never any problem.

As a contacts wearer, I find it wierd that people have them pop out. I've never had that in my life. Maybe they are not fit properly.

I would suggest contacts. It'll improve more than just his karting....
