Can R-888's be run backwards?
I have a new set of R-888's to try this weekend, and I normally swap tires right to left at the end of the day, to even out tire wear. The R-888's look to be directional, but I've always operated under the premise that tires can run reverse rotation in the dry.
Thanks!

Not according to Toyo. They say that the belts underneath can deform or delaminate but they would wouldn't they? I'm onto my 3rd set and like them very much but as tempting as it is to rotate them, I'm not going to chance it.

It's my undersatnding that the directrional pattern is relevant only in wet conditions. I swapped them last weekend and wasn't impressed, but other Spec Boxster drivers have had good results....

i run them both ways, and also flip them on the rim.
4 sets, 4000+ track miles, no issues.
though if you can find ref where toyo says otherwise, i may stop doing that.
this is for dry condition only.

I spoke directly to someone in their tech dept and asked him this question and others. He said no, for the reasons that I posted. However, as I implied, this might be just so they can keep selling more. Your choice.
Contact Toyo in the US and see what they say. Probably fine 99% of the time. It would be my luck to be in the 1% group.

I run them backwards when I have to, and flip them if I get a chance. No difference in lap times when running backwards.

Our Toyo guy has never told us anything about NOT running them backwards. We run them just like the RA-1's which was forward or backward, but only forward when in wet with tread.

What pressures are people running the R-888's? Toyo says hot pressures should be high 30's to low 40's--much higher than I ever ran MPSC's. What are you guys using for starting and hot pressures?
Thanks!

Being a true Libra I use 37 F & R on the mid-engined Boxster....
For cold temps on a 911 based platform, you should add an extra lb to the fronts, and also to the inside wheel depending on the track layout. On a predominitely right hand track I may start out on the right side (inside) with 30f-29r, while the left (outside) starts at 29f-28r. Of course you bleed all the tires hot to your target temp...
