Default Video of BMW race at Laguna seca

http://www.youtube.com/v/eU70YNvnFDU

This little camera is just awesome. I finally got the bugs worked out on the sound. I guess the way it is designed, you need to keep it in the little protective sealed case. Our next laguna race is May 4th. Im trying to rig up "suspension -brake glow cam"

all you need to do is keep the camera in its case and it can be racing tap'ed almost anywhere on the car. (or you can use the motorsports mounting package)

I think this camera should be mandatory for all cars to solve all 13/13 disputes

By the way, the quality is much better off the camera's 2 gig flash card. (or even saved as a 50Mb file , as this one is edited to with media maker. (30min is about 1 Gig on the flash card)

Then, Youtube really crushes the quality to make low bandwidth video work on the site.

No problem.

I not very easily impressed by incar video now, but it seems my favorite videos are out the front window, but show the driver steering and shifting, as well as the rear view, where you can see, in traffic its pretty interesting. I wonder if he noticed that he almost got hit a second time at the beginning of the first lap!

what ARE the audio "bugs" with the camera?
What's the trick?

The mic isn't as insulated from the sound/vibrations like the ones you find on the higher priced systems like ChaseCam. You end up with some static when the camera gets certain vibrations.

As Mark says, the enclosure that comes with the camera helps a lot. Most of the sound issues I've seen from the cameras have been when they were mounted on high vibration setups (formula 500, etc.).

The sound is a compromise with the camera but for the cost they can't be beat.

We found after extensive use, that the audio is a little too sensitive. However, in the provided sealed case, and some racing tape , we were able to get some pretty good sound as the video shows. The problem with racing, he wind at over 120mph can provide some sound saturation (crackling sounds).
If the camera is not fibrating on it's mounting surface, or if its out of the car on a fender or under the rear wing as we had it mounted, the case and some extra tape solves the problem.

Check out this rear view clip during our SCCA race a few weeks ago. This was taken with the camera out of the case.
the exhaust noise sounds like the chase scenes out of the old old French Connection type movies.

How much does your 928 weigh compared to those BMWs?

Obviously it's light enough to drive with one hand.

My 928 is about 300lbs heavier, and only about 10hp more than the BMW that was filming the video. (my gopro camera, on the back of his e36 bmw racer)

Funny you ask. about 8 years ago, I would have definitely run in this race, as we had this series called the BMW Porsche Challenge. now, BMW is on their own and PRC runs with PCA or POC or NASA. (and I usually run with SCCA ITE for much more close competition) However, this BMW group could all run in ITE and would double our competitive field.

The BMWs run near 2500lb car weight and my 928 is about 2750ish both without driver. the e30s you see running tough are more like 2450lb cars and still have near 240rwhp for the strong ones.

If you look at the Vet ini the second video link, its 393rwhp, but weighs 250lbs more than me. Pretty funny, in a class that has relatively no rules. (anything goes on DOTs) that we have some of the closest racing in the country. even our series at the end of the year, was won by only 1 point!!

You should find a better spokes model...the driver is getting schooled in the corners! (good video though).

Which video are your refering too?

Better spokes model? are you refering to the Momo? I figure if its good enough for the japanese driver beating sofro's WC GT time by 5 seconds, its good enough for my street car conversion.

If you are talking about the rear view BMW race, thats Bruce Matesso.
He still would have run a time that would have been a top 10 world challenge GT time in 1999, with a bmw that is basically a stock '95 M3. Also, the cars dive bombing him in the turns are on brand new slicks. He was on '04 toyo RA1s. I do hang pretty well with my 928 in the turns with him in our races in SCCA, but he is getting faster every year.
