Sad day for Porsche...I couldn't believe it when I saw both Porsches taken out in one incident. They were definitely able to challenge the Ferrari's for the win. I wonder what the discussion at Weissach has been like.

One of the 997 Team's week points was that every Porsche 997 Team had one gentleman driver (that was substantially slower than the other two). The top Ferrari teams were made up of professional drivers.
This could have come into play if the two fastest 997 had not taken each other out.

IMSA Performance Matmut had the same winning drivers from 2007 in the 2008 24 Hours of Le Mans, but that endurance race had a lot of cars go out (5 finished out of 13). I think the Lizards should have all-pro drivers for 2009.

Chalk another one up to the RSR's.
I wonder how many races Porsche has to win before people start urging Ferrari, Corvette, Ford, Dodge to make rear engine cars??????
Or is this a one way double standard?

Porsche motorsports representative at Porsche Platz at Lime Rock (I walked into the talk late) affirmed the rumor that the RSR's were running 4.0 motors. 1st running of this new motor in US.
Power output is the same. Wider torque curve for better driveability. Especially helpful for the tight chicanes at the Lime Rock Option course.

I was going to wait until after the first race to post this, but then it would be hindsight. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the RSR's will kick some butt this year.
So Ferrari and "race the cayman" fanboys take your best shot.
This can be the official ALMS bench racing thread.

From beginning to end:
Flying Lizard have won ALMS GT2 this year, and with two new drivers no less. I think throughout the season, they have prooved more than competitive.
Without some luck for Tafel, and unluckiness for Pilet/Overbeek, could have very well went 1,2 in points for the RSR's this year.
I'm pretty sure the RSR's dont have DI yet either, and are still developing the 4.0 liter. Between getting the 4.0 sorted out and the DI going and sorted, there is still a lot left in the 911 RSR.
This makes 7 of 9 total GT2 championships. I doubt the RSR will be replaced anytime soon, and thus the 911 as the technology trickles down into the street cars.
Speaking of which, if the new DI motor that's coming to the GT3, TT and GT2 is largely based on what's in the spyders, and coming to the RSR and can produce more power and significantly reduce weight (~100 lbs), it will really strengthen the position of the 911 street cars by offering more flexibility with the front/rear weight ratio.
Congrats to Henzler/Bergmeister on the GT2 Class Championship.
For 2009 an even bigger test will come with the BMW M3 GTR returning and Corvette Racing being added to the mix after Lemans. Both wont settle for less than being at the front, so the melee wil continue. More like a royal rumble, cant wait to see this one!!!!!!!
