My 993 always dynoed at ~249 RWHP. There is one running in our region at ~262 RWHP. Using the 249 figure, you need to weigh 3610 with driver to stay in GTS2. I did not want to ride around with 200lbs of ballast given that the tire, rotor and pad wear etc are bad enough. Thus, I pulled out the passenger seat, ballast, spare tire, door panels (easy stuff) to lighten up as much as possible, but still be able to run with PCA without too much effort.

I'm estimating that my car will be at 230RWHP (272 stock HP with 15% taken out for drivetrain losses). Here are the figures I'm using:
3000lb 993+150lbs ballast+200lb driver and gear=3350lbs/230RWHP=14.57
John, I'm sorry to hear that the white 993 is ailing. That's an expensive shift. Do you really think running another 150lbs of ballast will make that much of a difference in tires and brakes?

Mark, I think an extra 150 lbs will be noticable w/ regards to tires and brakes, but it's the difference between being competitive at the top of the food chain in GTS2 verses being at the bottom of the food chain in GTS3. Life... it's all about compromises.

Tom D ran GTS3 with a 993 GAC car last year which has a 3.8 with a cam turning 290 at the wheels. His car also weighs 2650 without the driver. He added weight 110 lbs or so to make weight and managed a track record on his first race at Summit last year. I have driven his car and it has 350 lbs of weight, plus a 50 plus hp on mine. He is has a 1.5 secs on me at Summit and a litte less than 2 secs at VIR (2:09s). I think running heavy in GT2S make more sense than trying to find 400 lbs to take off my car for GTS3. If it gets hard on the brakes, I will add the bigger brakes and go prepared in PCA for the couple of races I will do this year.

I just checked all of last year's results and only found the following:
March 10 - Thunderhill - there is a "GTS1" class with 3 cars.
I'm assuming this isn't a very popular class in our region - maybe everyone has their plate full just trying to make all the *usual* races in a season?

Yep. That would work too. However you would have to decrease a good amount of horsepower to make the NASA class and then you would want it back for PCA races. I think weight increases and decreases are more cost effective and easier to do????

I don't know how easy it is to tune your cars. I could probably gain or lose 20% of my horsepower with a quick chip/ecu change and not cause damage or need any other tuning. You could even go so far as to have both sets of maps installed and just change maps with a flip of a switch (outside the reach of the driver, of course).
