Default How do YOU downshift (poll)?

I figure this should be an interesting poll question. Vote for what ever method you normally use.

I'll vote first I'm a heel toe double clutcher.

Depends on the car.

Racekaa has a dog box and I can downshift more ways than you have listed. Before the rebuild this winter there was no throttle response for blipping so I'd just row the gears down no clutch no blip. It was actually easier on the dog gears than when I was rev matching.

Never waste my time double clutching anymore. Did when I was younger and thought it was cool now I'll just blip throttle with a H/T.

I only double clutch when the synchros get hot enough for the 4-3 shift to grind. otherwise, I normally just H/T (street and track).

I'm a former double--clutcher. I've found that I can't be quick enough with it on the track, so I've converted to H/T single clutch.

How about single clutch with match on the street, and sometimes on the track, heel/toe w/match when needed.

I figured its just sort of assumed if you know how to heel toe and match revs on the track, you can figure out how to match with out the heel toe. The one piece of advice alot of people need to hear when trying to learn how to heel toe and match on the track, is that they can practice on the street first by just matching revs, no need to throw in heel toe, then when they become good at matching throw in the heel toe aspect.

I learned to drive a manual transmission on a Triumph TR-3 and now own a E-Type Jaguar so double cluthing all downshifts comes naturally to me. I had a student mention that I was double clutching my downshifts, as I was doing it sub-consciously. I might be giving up some speed on the downshifts, but more than making up for it with smoothness. Any heel and toe downshifts are better than none........

Likewise, single clutch on the production cars. Now the Radical will change your perspective being able to just pop it in to the next gear. Going up, anyway. You CAN do it down, too. But since I have to fix and pay for it myself, the downside is too great.

Would LOVE to get into a sequential box 997 sometime!

Interesting...the advice I've always gotten on sequential and dog-ring race boxes is that it's better on the box to downshift without the clutch than to use the clutch. Using the clutch always seemed to cause a lot of grinding in my FM...it was best just to shift quickly and firmly with a blip while the lever passes through neutral.

Realize I'm using the bike integral-with-the-engine trans in the Radical. Dog box, e.g. REAL transmission, yes.

Up and down without the clutch and LFB. Yamaha engine seems to really like clutchless downshifts better than the Busa in my former Radical.

I voted as driving my new car, sequential blip and match with clutch. It often sounds terrible. Some people don't use the clutch but Porsche recommends it so I do. I have not tried it without the clutch yet. Here is a lap in my first race, Sebring a few weeks ago. The downshifting into T3 was terrible on the first lap but into T7 was quite good.

I used to always double clutch on my '73and it became subconscious. Last time I noticed I was blipping heel toe single clutch, don't know when I changed from double clutching.
