Default 10 point nuts on 3 piece wheels???

Hey gang:

I need to disassembe my Simmons wheels. They have 10 point nuts on them. They appear to be 13mm or 14mm in size. Have you guys ever heard of a 10 point nut? If so, where can I get a socket so I can disassemble these things?

I've asked Simmons, but they have not responded.

Thanks,

Brian

Are you sure they are not 12 point?

I've never heard of a 10 point fastener.

Recently posted the identical question regarding tools for the hardware on an old set of OZ Racing wheels. Mine are approximately 8mm on the bolt head and 10mm for the nut. Did manage to get one out and it is a 7mm bolt.

They are most likely a 12 point designed to be removed using only a 12 point socket. This provides for a larger fastener (torque) with a much smaller head, especially if countersunk. I have a bunch of 1/4" 12 points on my race car.
If you do not have 12 point sockets, try some 6 points - see what does not quite fit and what barely slips over and you will probably find the size.

I'll try to take a pic and post. But they have 10 points on them. I had a friend of mine at the house last night who does alot of machine work, he says he's never seen a nut like that before.

I'll look at the coastfab.com site.

Well gang, I received a reply from Simmons this morning (after 2 weeks of emailing them).

Their response is :
The 10 point nuts are "specials" that we have made for us to discourage disassembly of the wheels.
So they are going to ship me a socket from Australia to remove them.

They should make fasteners for road signs to prevent theft.

The funny part is he bought is wheel halves from Simmons. How in the Hell did they expect him to take them apart?

Since service is non-existent in the States and they knew he was doing it himself, it would have been nice if they had said, "do you need the special 10-point socket need to R&R those wheels Mr. Smith?"
