Geoffrey -- the difference in lap times you mention between the 964 and 993 cup, what do you primarily attribute that to? ...motor, susp, trans, etc.

The primary differences are going to be engine torque from 3.8l, much better gearing (may be the most significant contributor), wider tires, and the GT2 Evo uprights in the front. The later Cup wing also produce more downforce in the faster corners. I think that if you regeared a 964 Cup trans you'd find another 1-1.2 seconds at a track like WGI.

I've raced with a lot of the 964 cups and I must say that given an equal run out of the corner they are quite close when it comes to straight line speed. The biggest difference in my opinion is the handling. With the multilink rear suspension the 993 seems to be a lot flatter in the corners whereas the 964 exhibits the typical 911 inside front tire in the air. I think this is Charles Boyer behind me.

G, which gears would you re-gear? Is it a matter of changing a few or would you do each gear? I am going to need to do a synchro this winter so I was just thinkin'.....!

I'm not sure if that is because of the multilink suspension, or the much higher spring rates of the 993 cup.

A RSR is very different from a Cup... not a purist myself but the RSR is really special - if only because of the numbers.

We have an RSR here and I would cut off body parts to own it.

~600f / ~800r. They are progressive, so it is a bit hard to say exactly.

Brant,

I would change 2-5 in the cup G50/10 gearbox, however, it will not be legal for GTC-1 in PCA any longer and will put you into GT2R to run with cars like mine...

I think the stock springs/dampers work extremely will in the 964 Cup and you have enough adjustability to change the handling characteristics to meet the driver's needs. Further, I think the latest cup valving works better than the earlier valvings. I've also driven a 964 Cup with higher rate springs and dampers and didn't think it handled as well as the stock setup.

I'm don't subscribe to the theory that stiffer springs and shocks are necessarily better. The 200- 600/240-800 spring rate on the 964 cup is actually progressive and allow the car to be run on multiple types of surfaces without having to adjust a nonadustable suspension setup. The 993 Cup may run stiffer springs, however, the rear suspension also has geometry that changes with ride height and does not like to be lowered. A stiffer spring will keep the car's geometry from changing as much as with a softer spring. It may have been used to overcome this geometry issue.
