Friend

Won't your "friend" be mad that he can't keep up with the run of the mill 996 cup or is your "friend" just a glutton for punishment from all the water pumpers?
This looks like a pretty good deal. Actually probably faster than a 996 Cup.

Being on the market for a long time does not make it a bad car. Takes time to find the "right match" for some of these cars.
Chris, What are you racing now? I have been watching ALMS looking for your name on one of the GT2 or LMP cars.
My friend is thinking 993 converted cup for one run group and a stock wet cup for another run group. This way you don't loose race time for little things like stuffing the car in the armco.

The problem with this car is not unusual. The value of this car is that it is a factory built 993 Cup, however, it has been converted to a custom car that takes away from the factory race car value. It is now neither a 993 Cup, nor a 993RSR. The 993RSR values have not been there because they are about as fast as a 996 Cup, but with a higher maintenance cost due to expensive unique heads that crack over time. This converted car brings with it all the stigma of a tempermental custom car with a programmable management system.
I've seen this car and think it is about average for a PCA GT2R car in terms of mechanical equipment. Unfortunately, he'd probably have an easier time selling the car if it were in its original Cup specification, or was a 993RSR in original specification.
The car is probably a good car for someone wanting to run GT2R and doesn't care about preserving value, or if he can get the car at a good price.
50-65k is about what I'd expect this car to bring. A true 993Cup will bring 85-90k

I agree. Stock unmolested 993 Cup will probably sell for $75K or more. This car looks like a nice package for $50-60 bracket. My converted 993 street car sold in the 60's and more recently resold close to $80K.

Not to hijack the thread but I find this an interesting topic of dicussion. Cars like this are oh so tempting...seems like quite alot of bang for the buck. Once you have it though, who do you run with? Where does the car fit in.
At this point I am a DE driver but do like the fact that I can run with a variety of cars...otehr 993's, 964's, 951's and 968's and we are in the same ball park. That is to say the cars are somewhat equal and each driver knows what the other one has. For example..after a fun session you might say to somone..."wow you really drove the pants off that thing...etc." knowing, basically, what thier 993 or 964 is capable of. Conversley when you drive with one of these heavily molested cars (not meant as a detraction btw) you never really know where they fit.
Obviuosley I have been wrestling with this type of move/decision latley as I have been slightley bored with my current setup.

This car would run in GT2R as a 993 RSR in PCA. In NASA it would run in GTS5, in SCCA it would run in GT2 (?? could be wrong on that one) In HSR it would run in C15 I think. So, there are plenty of places to run it. In the right hands it's faster than 996 cup cars...

In the right hands (Alonso, Schumacher, Hamilton) my 944S could be faster than a 996 Cup car.

Come try club racing; you won't be bored with your 993 . . . provided you put a G50/20 tranny back in.

I am giving it serious consideration. The tranny is something to deal with, thankfully the LWF is now Ok.
Maybe I should sell off the tranny and the pss9's, get some motons and give it a go. I know you are having a blast.
