Default 6 Pound Battery

Has anyone tried this http://www.voltphreaks.com/home.html -- 12V battery (VPHR18) that weighs 6 lbs. For the price, $675, on a per pound basis, better weight savings for a Porsche than many other things.

http://www.odysseyfactory.com/specs.htm The PC545 seems pretty common for race cars. Odyssey batteries are usually under $200.

Happily, the weight savings of this battery from my Varley Redtop 30 is more than the weight of my hood and outside mirrors put together.

saving 7 lbs for $675? thats kind of out of control!
Ill stick with my 13lb $100 battery from oddessy

However, savings 10lbs for $360 is not too far off! a little scary using only 7 amp hours batteries, but it should work if the charging circuit is in good shape.

Good grief, towards what purpose? I guess for that minority of race classes with no weight minimums... But in a street or DE car? $675 sounds like a nice healthy contribution to a savings fund toward purchase of a proper race car...

If it weren't for cranking requirements, few people would need the batteries we typically use. Push-starting would save 10-40 lbs. Besides, it's good exercise. Subtract 20 lbs. more if you delete the starter.

After starting, the charging system alone supplies the electrical energy for the vehicle systems. During normal running, the battery merely sits there, literally a lead weight, after being recharged by the cranking exercise.

It is a good thing that Porsche racing is so economical. In F1, the cost of saving a pound can sometimes run from $20,000 to $50,000+.

Makes me feel good about baking 70 pounds of paint, seam seal and undercoating off a 911 tub for only $1200.

Brandon - you need to see this car :-) Robert is modest but a 675 dollar battery is probably on the minor end of the extremes taken on a unique car. Once you've fabbed a titanium wiper linkage the battery decision must follow pretty easily.

I would love to see Humpty Dumpty in person some day, the pictures have been phenomenal.
