I think this describes it pretty well:

First time at RA. About the third lap; lifted at T2 towards crest of the hill. One full rotation and I was on my way.

In the Trackmeister: Turn 9 at WSIR. Huge pucker factor, and took me a while to recover mentally and get back up to speed (and still not "up to speed" on that turn at that track). For those that know this turn, this is NOT the place you want to go off as its rocky and full of ditches ...others rolling over is not an unheard of event at T8/T9.

My mistake was that I was a victim of my own success. Throughout that session, I was working on T8 (a very fast sweeper with a short braking zone) that feeds into T9 (decreasing radius), then the long front straight. Done well, this section of track can really pay off in time. I was doing better and better, launching faster into the straight. That last one must have been the best one because that apex came up sooner than I expected. Yeah, massive brain fart!!! Spins and clouds of dirt/rocks later I, fortunately without rolling the car, walked away with one flat rear tire, rear end out of alignment, and a nice dent in the right rear qt panel (you may just make it out in my avatar) and scraped rt door...not to mention having to hand-pull misc panels and bumper pieces. Let's just say that was a learning experience that is still with me. BTW, I declined to fix the dent as I use it as a humbling reminder to do the right thing.

wow what a great thread. I'll go

first few days ever being on the track in 5XXHP 993:

hey with all this horsepower, I better make sure the tires are warm before I push too hard...grass

there is a "too fast entry speed" into big bend and little bend @ msr cresson ccw...grass

slowing down is good, but be gentle when lifting off brakes...tank slap, grass

997GT3 in europe:

instructor made me do it, I swear: going into 40mph turn 1 off a 140mph straight "brake later! brake later!" there was a "exit road" thing so no harm no foul but hey we sure did learn the limit of iron rotors and P-zero corsa tires. this absolute maxed out street tires braking/ abs intervention braking is now deeply implanted into my head and makes gauging where to brake much faster in all my cars.

lessons in 997RS

shot tires, shot nerves, empty gas tank car handles left/right transitions much differently than with more fuel load and decent tires...car was very hesitant to turn in @ about 100mph. kept all tires on track, but definitely the scariest thing I'd experienced yet...no spin, no slap, but huge pucker factor for me and instructor.

MSR tombstone CW: while chasing ghost cars, went straight off instead of trying to save it (before track out curbs were there) realized that I made a good decision. when there is no track out curbing, and possibly muddy ruts just off the tarmac, you're better off going straight then trying to save it and risk a rollover...grass

MX5 cup car

first time ever driving in the rain, with slicks...after about 15 mins of a planned 30 minute session recently at an MER school, I decided to see exactly how fast I could go through big bend...that worked pretty well as I kept going faster and faster until around 8 minutes later I went too far...Mud/grass and a lot of laughs.

the next day, after seeing what my car can do in the rain, I set my faster laps with each successive session...reading Flying Finn's posts about car control in slippery surfaces is dead on- finding the wet limit of the car definitely helped me find the dry limit!
