Question Where to buy this type of gold foil thermal tape?

I have seen this type of gold foil thermal tape on numerous race cars throughout the years but can never seem to find out where to buy it. Does anyone know where you can pick this stuff up at?

Is that more effective than the silver variety? It sure is a bunch more expensive!!

bsrproducts product id=1949 - gold 650 degree

bsrproducts products id=1950 - silver 950 degree

from their website.

The gold has a lower temp rating for heat reflection than the silver, and the silver costs about 30% less.

I'm a noob, so forgive the question. You wrap on the intake side, looks like from the picture. Do you wrap anything else with this stuff? That would make the higher temp rated stuff advantageous, right?

What happens to it after it starts to break down? I would assume the heat just rotts it.

We have tried both on intake plenums, the gold iteration works best.

How was this concluded? What data do you have to support this?

Define "best?"

Interested in your results.

Data collected during track testing by engine suppliers revealed reduced IAC (plenum air temperature) temps. Both examples being 920+ hp turbocharged V-8's where everything in the back of the car got freakin' HOT.

So Chris, one can use this to keep air intakes from being subject to surrounding heat, and also to wrap turbos to reduce their heat transfer out to the engine bay? What is the difference (functionally) between this and say the traditional thermal wrap that people put around the headers?

Jean,

I don't think the foil (or adhesive) will last wrapped around a turbo, it would get too hot. You should be able to find insulating blankets to wrap around the turbo though which will be more effective than the foil anyway.

Cory, good point, I did not think it was adhesive, what you are saying makes perfect sense then.

I was just wondering how this would compare to the typical thermal wrap and blankets from a temperature shielding POV. Thanks.
