Default VIR Full course Aug 9th

A friend of mine has put together a DE event Thursday, August 9th full course VIR. It is sponsored by the Wilderness Trail PCA. The cost is $195 each car. There will be 3 run groups: novice (no passing, limited # of drivers with instructors), solo, and advanced. With only 3 run groups there should be lots of track time.

If you are interested you can register at MotorsportReg.com.

No one here is interested? 7 sessions on the track, yes 7!!!!!

I know there are some fast drivers here, I've been on the track with a lot of you. There will be a some 997 GT3s, C6 Z06s, 996TTs, 550s. Don't you want to pass those cars?

Additionally there will be a Synergy 997GT3 on the track. The driver will be giving rides!

I'll be there. THe only thing I don't like is that the 7 sessions are 20 minutes. Way too short. Would prefer 5-6 25-30 minute sessions.

Already having the schedule for the day........
Since I will be instructing and the student group is out right before my session I essentially have 7 15-minute sessions. The more logical way to set it up if you only have 3 groups is to have the student group out AFTER not before the instructor group so we can come into the hot pits, park along the wall (pit boxes) and then jump into a students car for the session. That gives both student and driver full sessions AND more importantly gives time for a DEBRIEF immediately after the student session. Just a suggestion but I would switch yellow and green times on the track.

Oh well, it's better than no track time right?

I'm with Dell, I'm glad he spoke up first.

7 sessions would be great if they were 30 mins...

5-6 sessions at 25-30 mins should be much better, like Dell said. And NO yellow flags on the warmup laps after the 1st session... that's just a waste of the minutes we do have...

I'm holding out for a change in the length of sessions... 20 minutes isn't normally worth the heat cycles on the tires.

I had also inquired about more passing zones for the instructors. 4 passing zones makes me feel like a beginner again... Most PCA clubs allow:
1-2
3-4
bridge straight
10-11
back straight
some allow the straight through roller coaster
front straight

really keeps things moving along

Just my .02 based on running tons of events with tons of different clubs at VIR...

I call it like I see it every where else in the world except the track, because it was getting me in too much trouble there... I've learned that alot of track people can't handle the truth... (doesn't apply to this thread/club/etc)

What BKS said. And is there really "no passing" in the Novice group? I would think that would make instructing tedious ( and driving for some novices).

Brian and Dell,

Thanks for your input; I agree completely. I've emailed my friend to see if we can change the lenght of the run groups.

Bob,
I also asked him about the passing.

Dell,
Look forward to meeting you.

First off. . . I am coming up for the day and looking forward to it especially if all of these suggestions are taken into consideration.

Secondly. . . since I don't recall ever seeing anyone this receptive to suggestions on how to run a DE day I would like to add a few.

1. At the 5 PM whistle having 2-3 kegs tapped in the Pagoda would be nice.
2. Having the Sunoco race gas pumps set to give free fuel for the day is a plus.
3. Grid girls to help towel us off after each run is a big plus especially if they look like Eva Longoria.

Just my $.02

Just let us know what is decided.

I'd like to come, assuming we can get some passing zones, and the sessions are long enough to actually get my freak on...

Word on the street is that according to Susan actually you don't need very long to get your freak on!

This event still needs more instructors. Instructor cost is $50; $195 otherwise. If they don't get enough instructors for their 22 novices (some Intermediates have requested instructors too), they may ask some Intermediates with as little as 4 events experience to instruct as Instructor Trainees.
