Default Roofing nail in my street tire that will also see track use for DE?

I just found a damn roofing nail in one of my ZR rated tires. It is perfectly in one of the grooves of the tread. What is the consensus about patching something like this? This is a street tire but it will see DE use.

Thought and opinions?

P.S. this tire is about two months and less than 500 miles old

Make a tire swing out of it.

Do you live by Dell? He's notorious for this type of thing

Oh are you a PCA member? We're in the same region. Dell by the way is (LVDell) a well known (around here) friend that lives up in the Cary area and has had the same thing happen from new development in his n.hood.
Do you get down to Wilmington at all? We should get together if and when you do.

Alas, it's a worthless piece of rubber now. If you think a new tire is expensive, think about a blow-out at 100+. I've seen a tire completely ruin a rear quarter panel when it "exploded" while driving. If it's a front tire, it could possibly take out your radiator lines and really screw up your front bumper.

You know the old saying, an ounce of prevention...

I won a race recently because the guy in the next class up blew out a rear slick and destroyed about a quarter of his bodywork as the tire came apart at about 130 mph.

That said, I've raced on punctured Toyos repaired with a plug. And then kept running them until the cord showed.

Pilot's advice: two new tires.
(If winning an event depended on it, though, many of us would run with a patch.)

Why two new tires? to match less than 500 miles of wear?

How many have ever had a tire come apart, for any reason, at speed and what caused it?

If you decide to patch it, have it patched from the inside. Better than a plug.

Yeah, 9 tires in the first year qualifies as notorious. Sonsabiches. The damn builder has subs that I swear sprinkle nails on the road on purpose. Thank God they are just about done. Just a few home left to build
