'in the beginning', when SM was still 'innocent' and 'pure', a fast time was a 2:15. With advancements in legal (some probably no so legal, but I won't go there) intake side mods and pricey engines, folks have taken that fast time down by over seven seconds since the inception of the Spec Miata class back in about (?) 1999.

I'm just frustrated because when I started out, a 2:10 would have won me a race. Back then, I was still struggling with a 2:16. Now that I'm consistently turning 2:12s and the occasional 2:10 or so, it's no longer a winning time. Poop I tell you -- just poop! But it's no big . . . I have fun, and that's really all that I care about. The last thing I need is a cheesy plastic trophy collecting dust anyway. Lol.
And that's the car I currently own...............I suck in the SM. Never have warmed up to going "backward".

Track itself is significantly faster than even a couple of years ago. Some of certainly is performance creep; but when it was OK to do 2:10 in something like a streetish RS America, 2:07 is where things fall today.

As far as top speed into 1, well the Radical isn't going to peel your face back on acceleration. We'll leave that to.......to...........to........Van' (?!?!?!?). A Van sighting! Which color IROC do you have, and did you see that little article in Excellence about the press day at Riverside?

Karen says hi!
Ken and Karen.. been too long Hi to you both.. I did see the article in Excellence and ask the guy if he would sell me photos but he wanted almost 4k Oh well... I own the Shara Biege car that Fittipaldi put on pole in the first race. He was 5 min late for the drivers meeting and was put at the back, while blazing through the pack he went of track and punctured the palstic cell and that was it..the first three races where run at Riverside over one weekend and only six drivers were moved on to the Daytona race so a few of the cars were sold off . Mine ended up in IMSA and raced until 1978 .

Good ole T hill on the main straight... to be honest I don't even think I broke 150 at the end of the straight, if I did it was not much over

Oh, sorry, Kim . . . I was kind of guessing at the exact time. I remember that day, though, still. David broke the record in qualifying, then Justin broke it later in the actual race. I at that point no longer felt bad about getting pounced on by those guys.

You own Justin's former car, Ken? Wow. It doesn't surprise me that your performance in the SM is different than one of your Porsches. Wanna see a super slow 911 RS car? Eheh. Just hand me the keys. I'm sure I'll have the exact same problem going between a front engine and rear engine car. I'm pretty quick in my friend's Elise, though -- but that's a mid-engine. I suspect it'll take you a while to transfer your skills over to that SM. Go-karting will help.

So . . . hmmm . . . if Ken is driving his SM, you mean I finally have a chance to pass him? Whahahahaha.

Wow. A 2:07 with the cyclone is pretty amazing, when you consider the motor and tire width a Spec Miata is running.

That's pretty incredible, too. The last time I checked my data on Thunderhill, I don't think I got better than 119 on the front straight.

Miatas, when properly prepared, run pretty fast in the turns. It's kinda like an e-ticket ride type of thing. The guys that made those track records were literally on rails the WHOLE TIME. I don't have the guts to do that. But keep in mind, cars like Justin runs (and Ken bought one of) are worth well over $20k in most cases. It's a case of the log book sells the car.

The fastest I've ever had my SM down the main straight was only 110 . . . I nearly lost my teeth that day (from the grinding). The way to make your entry into turn one starts way back at turn 12, actually. If you have a lot of speed going between 13-14, at least in a Miata, you can literally drift between 14-15 (I've not yet driven a Porsche, so not sure if drifting will work here). I don't know if that's the right way to do it, but it's been bringing my times down somehow. I don't typically suggest drifting, but in that particular set of turns, it has been working. Kim Ouye has way more expertise here -- hopefully he'll chime in.
