Default Toyo R888 DOT tires just released for NA

The Toyo R888 DOT competition tires, the ones that will replace the RA-1's were finally released today in North America. They've been in Europe for a period of time and we now finally get them. Limited sizes to start with more sizes being released as the year progresses.

I'm told that the compound is nearly identical to the RA1, but the sizewalls are much stiffer. The wear appears to be good, but the people I know who received a free advanced set have not worn them out yet. Because of the tread pattern, they are much noisier than the RA1s. The specs are under "sports cars" at www.toyo.com

Now all I need is to get 2.5-5 degrees of negative camber out of a bone stock Boxster ... yikes!

Are the RA-1's asymmetric? I've got to imagine that if they are recommending that much negative camber and as much caster as possible. Does anyone know?

The 888's look dorectional. Does anyone know if they are? I hope not. Stiffer sidewalls will be nice, however.

Well technically the RA1's are directional... I have two of my four installed for tomorrow's track day right now. Just needed a refill

However many flip them and run them 'backwards' to get some extra life out of the rubber. [not that it wasn't you guys that taught me this in the first place, i'm preaching to the choir ]

I'm sure many of use will be watching these carefully...

Only in standing water, otherwise, get them shaved and go.

So same as the RA1's, irrespective of the fancy arrow tread pattern, Tim?

I'm getting a set within days, will report; 255 F and 295 R for Cayman w. 8.5 & 10.5 x 18 Fikses. I expect they'll be very similar to RA1s and like 40 lbs. hot pressures.

The guy I spoke with at Willow Springs a few weeks ago said you can flip them, if running in dry conditions. Both sides of the tires have the stiffer sidewall.

Um...yeah...that's the rub. Toyo has THE WORST distribution system in the world, bar none.

I'm hoping about the same as the RA1s. I'll check with Paul on specifics this Sat.
