Default Ride height settings on a 944S2

Hi Guys;

I'm screwing around with corner balance and ride height. Boy am I getting good at pulling wheels and weighing the car. I'm very close to the corner balance I want but I'm not sure what is a good ride height?I'm running 18" wheels if that matters. Thanks for any suggestions.

Before we get to ride height, are you running upgraded control arms?

Lowered ride height + 18 inch wheels + stock A-arms = disasterous potential.

That being said, my 944S2 (with Kokeln A-arms) is lowered to about as low as you can go without having troubles on the street. The car's at the shop right now, otherwise I could get you a more solid number.

Soon as I get my car back from the shop, I'll measure ride height -- what's the best place to do measure?

Good question. I was using the fender but I think my RR fender was rebuilt at one time. There is lots of bondo in there. I don't think that measurment is accurate.

Don,

The limiting factor is the grmoetry of the ball joints. You do not want any binding. I think mine is 26-27" from the edge of the fender usining 255/50/16 tires on all 4 corners. Also make suet that the car is level from front to rear. A level on the door seal should be a good tool for that.

OK, I went out and measured my car this afternoon and here are the ride heights to the highest point on the fender. The car has been corner balanced and possibly lowered a litle in the process

LF - 24 7/8", RF - 24 13/16"

LR - 24 1/2", RR - 24 1/2"

I'm running 245/45 x 16 RA-1's all around.

How does that compare to everyone else?

Hi Don, glad to hear your car is coming along!

I use this handy little spreadsheet for corner balancing: http://www.356racing.com/balance.html

You type in what are your individual weights, and then it calculates the % left/right and front/back and tells you what the optimum weights should be.

(Don't forget to put weight in the driver's seat - or better yet, sit in there and have someone else read the scales.)

Here's my ride height (with fab car arms) -- I didn't bother measuring the ride height at the other corners, because the corner balance is more important -- even if it means the car looks like it's not sitting square.
