Default Air Jacks, where & which to buy

I'm looking for advice and experience concerning air jack setups, I think I'm going to need this setup due to the extremely low height of the car plus it will make it easier when trying to get a larger floor jack under it to put it up on stands.

I'm not looking for a huge lift, just something that will get it up enough to make changing a tire or such easier.

Also what size air compressor would one need to use these in my garage?

Thanks.

If you want lightweight small compact air jacks, AP Racing has them (I use them) but they are about $880ea. This year at PRI I saw that Goodridge has a similar size air jack and they list for about $325 so I might look into the details of them. You can buy some lesser expensive ones from HRP, but they are rather large and heavy in comparison to the AP Racing ones, however, the price is much less.

You will need about 350-400psi to lift the car and will depend on which air jack you end up with. Typically a nitrogen bottle is used since normal shop air compressors are in the 120-150psi range at most.

I see thanks, so that's what all the nitrogen talk was about on the other thread....interesting.

Not difficult. You need to weld up some tubes, cut the holes in the chassis, and weld them in with bracing. The most difficult part is dealing with the factory undercoating and not catching the car on fire.

That part seems to be easy. the routing of the air line to the cowl looks to be the hardest part. Correct ?

I guess it depends on how much street car is left...

Here's a question, if you just use regular air from a compressor instead of nitrogen will it still raise the car? I'm worried about damaging the surface in my garage with 400 psi.

You don't want compressed air in your airjacks due to all the moisture.

We've been using the airjacks on our considerable heavier car for a couple years in the garage without issue - it's not like they are shot out of a cannon, they lower and build pressure (albeit awkwardly) and the the car rises.

You'll need nitrogen - for both home and the track.

You can always place a small piece of plywood under them also to help deter garage damage...

We had small steel discs made up - about 6" diameter by about 3/8" thick.....used them for soft ground, soft pavement, and for shop floors.

When making up air lines - both inside the car, and hoses from nitrogen bottle to the air jack wand, be very careful to get ones rated for the correct pressure. We used hydraulic hose (rated at 1000psi working and 3500 psi burst) had them swedge threaded ends on them for fittings.

Hoses rated at 500 psi WILL HURT YOU..!!

The airjacks require 350psi working pressure to raise the car, I would think you would want line that had a working pressure above 350psi. I used aluminum tubing with flared ends for -6 AN fittings rated to 500psi working and I forget what burst pressure.

Where does porsche locate them on their race cars? In other words, where is the best spot to locate them?
