Default Stewart likens some NASCAR cautions to wrestling

Did anyone see the article by AP's Jenn Fryer about Tony Stewart saying that "some cautions are staged like wrestling".

He further stated that "it's like playing God, they can almost dictate the race instead of the drivers doing it. It's happened too many times this year."

Anyone want to predict how much punishment Tony gets. Or will they just ignore it and hope it goes away?

I don't watch NAS-AR much but I would have to agree with Tony. The races I've watched have had cautions for "debris" that the tv crews didn't substantiate.

Nascar would be good "racin" if they eliminated Yellow Flag pit stops...

The Phantom Yellow's are a joke... I will tune midway into a race, and then go do something else when they throw a yellow for a glove on the apron... or phantom debris... just because the front runner is about to lap somebody of "importance"...

By the way... I love the way Mike Waltrip is imploding...

Nascar would be great if they added a figure 8.. otherwise it's a waste of time IMHO

You have to respect Nascar for thier ability and skill on the ovals... the top drivers are extremely talented and I find way to often Porsche Snobs have no respect for the skill and talent it takes to run those cars...

I hate the marketing/BS associated with NASCAR however, and it turns me off from what could be great racing...

Yeah, I read that article. I don't watch NASCAR much, so I can't comment from experience. Pretty sad if what he says is true about the yellow being used to manipulate the outcome. They should just let these guys race and the best drover wins. Period.

I don't think anyone here would question the ability of any of the drivers. It's the big business that comes into question. The few NASC@R races I do watch include the Glen. Those guys all have talent.

A former boss of mine is a big NASCAR fan and his girlfriend ran the Big A Auto Parts (where I worked at the time) BGN program. He long ago said NASCAR was like wrestling. I agree.

The drivers and engineers are mostly extremely talented, much like most "pro wrestlers" are indeed quite fit. But the races are all to often orchestrated or at the very least interfered with.

Stewart is saying when his present contract is up, he is retiring. I can only assume that all the nascar bs and games are getting to him. I used to watch nascar, but no longer can sit thru an entire race. Big money has destroyed yet another form of racing.

Maybe he will show up in F1!! Oops, I forgot, it only goes FROM F1 to NASCAR, not the other way!

I don't think Tony Stewart could fit in an F1 cockpit

He's right however, they'll throw a yellow in NA$CAR if the wind changes direction. I have had the same impression, the yellows definitely seem to help "Improve the Show" if I can coin a phrase from another race series director.

I think you jumped into the wrong thread. I don't see anyone here bashing the drivers (eventhough about 50% of the filed is filler).

I think NASCAR determined it wouldn't be good for the fans if the field was spread out around the oval. Imagine trying to find/follow P1 and the cars who are chasing, something Champ and Indy Racing cars routinely do. NASCAR and WWF audiences like their spectating easy.
