Default A save in the rain

Here's a little clip of a save that I made in turn 1 in the Enduro at Road Atlanta. I have watched it several times, and I still cannot figure out what I did with my hands, or how I turned the wheel that fast. All I can say is that I was ahead of the car, and caught the slide the instant I felt it go.

For all of you novices out there, that is why you need to learn car control. Get lots of time on a skid pad or autocrossing, because your brain subconsciously has to figure out the dynamics of what to do to stop the car from sliding. Lots of DEs do not necessarily teach you this.

Interesting, Larry. You kind of jab at the wheel during the recovery. I've replayed the video many times at 1/2 speed and it still looks fast!

I was lucky and didn't have to re-learn the wet line at RA that weekend. I knew the old surface in the wet all to well.

I'm curious why you were taking that line into turn one? The old surface was close to the dry line, just a few feet off the apex to avoid the puddles.

Nice save just the same...

Because Greg Pickerall was right behind me & if I took the normal line he would have passed me again, like he did on the previous lap. I had passed him going into 10a on the previous lap too.

How do you learn CC when it's always two feet in/out for any spin?
Here are some of my saves:

Great advice. I've always felt that autocross is by far the best place to learn car control skills. I know it has saved me many times. It's a lot harder to learn that while you're on the road course, where you don't have the luxury of being able to spin without hitting anything.
