Default Kimi Admits Almost Falling Asleep During the Race

During the post race conference, Kimi was asked what happened when he almost lost it, leading with 10 laps to go. He said something to the effect that he was looking at something else.

Well, he admitted yesterday that he almost fell asleep at the wheel. He lost radio communications with his race engineer, Chris Dyer for most of the race and was being updated via pitlane boards. After he nearly lost it, he gathered up his concentration and finished the race.

He went on to add that he did not really push very hard during the course of the race...

Kimi always looks like he's sleep walking.

As discussed in Z-man's thread, doing a couple of laps with your eyes closed is an advanced drover learning technique.

Thanks, VR, I needed that after a long week. Always brings a smile to my face

This just in, Kimi is good for the sport. Not as corporate as others.

I'm calling BS...that sounds like something he'd say just to get at Alonso. I've fallen asleep on the grid before, but there's no way that anyone's body could approach sleep under the stress (both physical and mental) of driving a F1 car.

I have heard of people getting bored. Johnny O'Connell gets bored during longer enduros so he prepares trivia questions for his crew. You know the driving part really has become 2nd nature when you can carry on stimulating conversations with your crew while knocking off lap after lap in the dark.

Anything is possible, but Kimi doesn't appear to be the kind of guy to care about getting into other peoples heads. It's been well documented that he spends an inordinate amount of time sleeping in the jroad coach during race weekends.

He did not have radio communications, what I failed to mention is that he also said that he had a hard time distinquishing his pit boards from the pit boards from other teams. Knowing Kimi, he just said the hell with it, I'm not going to try and decipher the boards. I'm ahead, I'm not really pushing, if I see someone in the rear view mirror, I'll just go faster. He seems like a type "B" in a type "A" sport. Still, he's funny.
