Default Egress with a containment seat

I installed my Cobra Evolution this weekend. I knew going in that it would compromise emergency egress...everything is a trade off I guess.

I am pretty tall (6'3") and the seat is pretty far back. However, the head containment "wings" block about 1/2 of the window opening.

Has anyone looked at running with the vertical part of the window frame removed? I want to keep the car as secure as possible but if this little piece of window frame is between me and survival, I would like to look at ways to remove it.

Adrenaline is a wonderful thing for egress. You'd be surprised at how stuff moves out of the way! Also, don't think that the drivers window is the only way to get out. I actually climb through the passengers window to exit the car when it's in the trailer.

On the other hand, don't understimate the impact of panic; we saw a driver unable to unfasten his harness during a sever engine fire that penetrated the cockpit. Luckily a fellow driver was able to get him out. Ugly, but a good result.

I think there's a case to petition PCA and get the passenger seat requirement removed.

I was also thinking of modifying the vertical window rail so that it was more of a "breakaway" part.

The vertical rail - do you mean the trailing edge of a vent window?

Hey;

Definitely more difficult for sure. You have to plan your tubing very carefully and you need to remember to factor in the padding. Every inch counts. I'm even thinking I might have to redo my door bar.

Yeah, especially around the waistline. That's the area I'm modifying.

Yes the trailing edge of the vent window.

John, I am thinking of ways to maximize the escape route with the door closed...so door bar location/size, in this case, isn't really an issue. .

Pfffffffff;

I'm too lazy. I'd just kick the windshield out... if it didn't fly out already!

I guess I'll have to order a few spare windshields and practice that one!
