Post California Speedway Race Report!!

The Huntley Racing Team was at Fontana running our customers 86' 944 N/A with HR-2.8 ltr motor, with our suspension etc... We ran 4 full days of racing starting Thursday! We burned over 80 gallons of race gas! Our customer had a blast pulling 944 turbos on the straits and battling with many 911 and 944 race cars. We ended up finishing 3rd in GT4S after a great start but with a couple of oopsies during the race and a limited slip which went bye bye during qualifying the previous day, which cost us some time. The car was a real attention getter with it's distinct sound eminating from it's side oval pipe! She made over 145 MPH in 5th gear on the banking. We got her down to a low 1:59 lap time with room to grow with some more driving time for our novice driver. Both driver and crew had a great time talking with all the passers by wanting a closer look at the little red car that could!

Nope, with the chicane!! We missed the 'no chicane' session! I heard it was fun though. There was easily 3-4 Sec in the car with a working LSD and a more experienced driver.

Does anyone have the results? It looks like there were more than a couple of 944-Spec cars in the class?

Here are the GT4S results for the Blue group:

POS Name Car Best Lap
1 Thomas Bosley '80 911SC 1:52
8 Peter Smith '83 944 1:58
12 Michael Dobbs '86 944 1:59
13 Johathan Ariano '85 944 2:02
16 Charles Wirken '88 924S 2:05
17 Jeffrey Grow '87 924S 2:10

I believe I was the only one running a true 944-spec car (Tim Comeau's 924S) and as you can see, it was woefully uncompetitive in the PCA GT4S class. Blue group had 27 entrants.

Jeff,
Looks like you did fine Chas and Jon are both good, experienced drivers.
Are those the best lap times of the weekend, enduro, sprint race?
The fact that Tim let you drive his car in a race.
WOW!
That speaks for itself. Way to go Tim...
See you guys at WS in July.

As far as being uncompetitive in the GT4S class it just goes to show why the spec thing is so much fun especially for a low hp class. It really teaches you to become a better driver to go faster rather than just throw money at the car you actually have to drive the car better, to go faster.

Does anybody know anything about the Peter Smith '83 944. There is a 83 944 race car with a built S2 motor, all sorted that runs 1:24's at Willow on ebay. Is this the car?

Paul Check the main 944 forum.
Looks like there were two prepped 944 NA running.

A Huntley built 2.8L car & another 2.7 or 2.8 high compression motor car.

What group was the blue group? Fast group or the slower group?

All these cars were in the Blue Group. It was the Anderson 3.1 ltr, Huntley 2.8 ltr, Strassa 2.7-2.8 ltr all dicing for the 944 crown this weekend. Anderson was out on Friday with motor issues, which left the Huntley and Strassa cars to fight it out. Too bad too, we were are looking forward to the three way battle. No other 944 cars were in contention for GT4S.
