Sorry to bring an almost dead thread back to life but I did it anyways... Can someone tell me why some RSR's have the big strut brace in the front trunk and some do not?

The alex job car in the pictures had some additional bracing that they did after purchasing the car. It consists of some triangulation of suspension pickup points.

Thanks Geoffrey, was this something that all race teams did or just AJR? How much of a benefit would be seen in club racing if you were racing a car that didn't have it?

What I saw on the AJR car was unique compared to others I've seen. When I built my car, I incorporated some improvements. As far as club racing goes, I think the driver is the biggest variable, and you would only see improvements when you have a top driver that can exploit the last bit of the car. So, would the average club driver be faster in an AJR car over a standard RSR, I don't think so.

On the two cars you were looking at, did they have bars going fwd through fire wall to shock towers? ...I had heard that in some race series that was not allowed, however, here's a pic of one on assy line and it has up bar going fwd.

I bought a new '98 in '98, and it did not have anything heading forward. If I recall, the crossbar under the dash was also not standard, but everyone did that much on their own, along with Nascar bars, which were required for Daytona. Once the GT3R came out, no one in ALMS cared what people did with the old cars, and the USRRC collapsed.

Its one of the old cars I worked on in Alex's shop and crewed for! Nice job on the restoration. It was one of two tubs we got after we gave up on the Fabcar tube-chassis cars to get in-line with the rules. Buddy Hendrix, Les O'Rourke, Axel Hohle, Sid Collins and host of others I can't even remember anymore, helped fab and run these cars in the late 90's.
The motor looks like the old 3.6L with that "resonant" intake manifold where the intakes for the left and right bank faced each other where that screen mesh is. Is it running a Bosch motronic EMU? We always wanted to get a chip made for that thing just for Daytona, until we found out how much it'd cost to have Bosch make one for us. So we just had the two Bosch provided with those engines. If that's the same engine, we ran it in Angelo Cilli's old RSR (the original number 22) that was painted black, with the Italian tri-colors as stripes.
I saw the 23 car at Rennsport. It was still unrestored and brought back a flood of memories. Alex and Holly had the DP Crawford Porsche and the 23 pushed together for a photo op. It was great seeing it again and now knowing where this one is, and that its still doing well is sweet.
Now if we could get the mid-engine "good and plenty" car that Tom Hessert, Hurley Haywood, and Carles Slater drove and get the three of them hooked up at the same event it'd be really cool.
Good luck with her.

Yeah, AJR always did a lot of "prep" work trying to improve on the product. After having run tube frames for so long it really seemed like a "flexible flyer" so we added some "non-standard" bars to the tub. As I recall we even had our own "top hats" for the uprights to space the wheels where we wanted them. In the January testing for the 24 we had some front tire rub issues in the car's debut as I recall.

The old "Good and Plenty" car is still alive and well. In fact, it's for sale for $130,000. Contact Sol Snyderman at Perfect Power.

Very cool, that mid-engine car was fast, but fragile! $130k huh? I might have to check it out.
The last I heard from Patrick for anyone interested, he was in the Atlanta Ga area, but that's been 5 years or so now, so I don't no what he's doing. When he did our bodies at AJR he was down in South Florida somewhere.
