Default Where are the Michelin slicks?....

I've been told various renumerations of why there aren't any Michelin Cup Series slicks avaiable for the past few months. The consenus seems to be that there's a new Cup Series slick coming that will be labeled in Blue. In the interim there doesn't appear to be any of the Yellow stamped sets available. I
wanted to get some practice sessions in over the holidays but all I've got left are old, slippery ice-skating blades....

Can anyone add anything to what I know?....

Wow Mike, what were the circumstances around that tire? Was that a cup specific tire or an S8A/S7A compound?

Cup tire. Had plenty of tread and only 2 heat cycles. Michelins were blowing like Bridgestones on Explorers last year. That tire cost me $20K and Michelin did not even want to see it. Now that SCCA is allowing 18" tires in GT class maybe Hoosier or Goodyear will make some.

p.s. I have a few sets of good used pre-blowout type Cup tires if you want some.

You want new Cup slicks for practice!

I hear the new Blue Cup slicks will really give us guys on a budget the blues. They are approximately $300 dollars more a set and have an outside lip, so you can't flip them for extra life.

The "regular" Michelin slicks are back in stock, maybe you can make do with those for practice.

I run the less expsensive customer Michelins S7A/S8A and for my lighter car they work a little better than the Cup series tires.

The softer 7 and 8s are pretty good but not as fast on the heavy cup cars, unless maybe it's quiet a cold day.

Like the new "Blues" are better I ran them @ Daytona & they certainly didn't feel $ 300.00 different! I can't imagine going back to the non-cups though. Maybe the Hoosier thing will pan out. They could sell a bunch of them if it's a decent, competitive tire.

Yea I've also been hearing about Yoko's new cup tire for over a year. Maybe I should buy some 90 day Michelin calls....

Nice blowout Mike. I've had two different cups lose their outside rear slick in 6th right in front of me this year. One at Cal Speedway coming out of the banking in 2, and 1 earlier this month at Willow Springs going thru 8. Scary times, both drivers were blessed and spun harmlessly into the grass/dirt.

I've tried the 7a/8a tires and found them pretty worthless for cup cars. They cord really easily as their sidewalls are not as stiff as the cup tires.....
