Default I/O port new lightweight camera mount

I noticed that I/O port has a newer lightweight camera mount for bolting onto roll bars.

Anyone have any experience with this new mount? Is it significantly smaller than the original and does it still provide low jitter video?

I don't know what's different about that from the one that I purchased 2 years ago. I also aquired an old one with the RSA that I bought, and it had a steel frame and brackets, while the newer one is aluminum. Maybe that is what they are referring to?

I just bought an i/o mount and it seems to work well. I had some vibration at over 100mph but I'm sure that can be adjusted out.

Aluminum, eh? Interesting... for the same price. Well, I suppose it IS still $100!

Larry, how's the RSA treating you?

Cheers

It's running great. Won first time out at the Glen & I seem to be able to run about the same times as the GT3 when it was on Hoosiers.

I agree with Larry. Although the ad copy says the mount is new, I'm not convinced it is any newer or lighter than the I/O Port mount I bought four years ago. The mount uses Manfrotto/Bogen articulated arm components which have alwayts been made of aluminum. I've broken the cast arms of a few Manfrotto tripod heads and noted that they were aluminum, thinking that if they were made of steel, they would not have fractured quite as easily.

Agree with Mark and Larry. It looks and sounds like the same mount I bought last Spring. Anyway, mine workd well.

Let me know if you figured that out. My 6 year old DV camera (large) vibrates really badly at 100+ mph. I borrowed a new, $250 DV camera (small) and had no vibrations up to 125 mph. I'm thinking it's a camera issue and I need to upgrade.

Larry, that's terrific! Do you think you're pushing harder in the RSA?

Mark, I already ordered one... we'll see. It's probably aluminum as you and Larry have mentioned. I don't plan on fracturing anything... knock wood.

Chris, you probably need an updated camera with better image stabilization.

Chris:

I was thinking maybe the camera as well. I will reposition the mount a little and am using a slightly new camera this time. The new one has usb which will allow easier transfer to the computer.

My DV video camera has optical stabilization, but the size/weight seems to be just too much for the mount. The smaller camera I borrowed took a rock solid image. I'll have to consider getting a new DV camera that is smaller and lighter than the one I have or go with some other system--something like two pencil cameras and a digital video recorder. I do want to stay with DV, though, so that I can do easy in-computer editing but I also want to be compatible with Traqmate and data acquisition.

Looks the same as mine that I bought about 2 years ago from Autopower. I believe the I/O port ones are made by Autopower as well with the decal being the only difference between the two.
