Default Cup car power steering. Who makes it?

Saw one today in a 2004 GT3 Cup car. Anyone know who makes it and where I can get one? The PS in my Boxster is now a weak point and I would like to change to an electric pump for all of the obvious reasons.

Thanks,

Bro

ETA: The problem is now becoming acute as my power steering pump fried from track use. I guess Boxsters weren't made for the track. Here are a couple of pics of the electric steering pump I would like to use.

One potential cure for the Boxster's PS issues is a PS cooler. I suspect that is a cheaper fix than changing out the whole system.

I have an ulterior motive for relocating the pump. Has to do with a S/C installation. Plus, I would rather just not have to think about PS fluid temps.

Oh, and don't forget about the 8 hp savings.

How about a manual steering rack, like the RSAmerica, US/Euro Cups?

That pump is a Volkswagon Polo pump...not available in the states...Even if you can get one it won't work...it needs a CAN line from the ECU to operate. I tried....Just buy it from PMNA...it's only $700 or so...you will spend way more than that trying to get a Polo pump and making it work....

Porsche motorsport modifies the electrical circuit to work in a race car.

Good luck..

When you say Porsche Motorsport modifies the electrical circuit to work in a race car does that mean it doesn't need a connection to the ECU or that the circuit provides a non-CAN connection (is that possible?)? $700 plus the work involved to install it is fine by me. BTW I have a 2000 Boxster S.

Thanks,
Bro

Rick, I have fooled with a few of these and never had a CAN line, just +12 high current, +12 low current (key on power that is), and alternator D+. Have you seen something different?

Just put the PS cooler on. Simple and effective.

Actually, check with RUF. We had a club member with a RUF3400 that ate pumps like mad. Solution was an electric pump. That turned out to be alot of sorting as he kept blowing fuses. Long story short, the problem was resolved. Car was recently totaled on the street, bummer. A fellow instructor drove this car at Summit and without trying logged a 1:20!

The Grand Am Cup PS solution is a Toyota MR2 PS pump and runs off 12v.

Happy 4th!

I have the MR2 power steering pump and it is heavy compared to the Cup part. It also doesn't have an integrated reservior which is not as nice as the Cup part.
