Not at all clear to me why you would say this.

Do you really think that you will wear out or heat cycle RA-1s or Victoracers driving them to the track?

Cheers,

Jeff

Cool I say this because....

RA-1s and VictoRacers, according to the mfgs, should be shaved to 4/32 for maximum performance. If you want this, and you want to eliminate the possibility of chunking tread or possible blistering because of excess heat, you'll shave them. As a result...they have nearly 0 tread. CE Boyd wants to drive to the track and also wants insurance that if it rains CE Boyd will not be all over the road on slick tires.

If you want to drive to the track, run and drive home. Of course this is possible. I have done it too. But I am spoiled with shaved tires.

You wont wear them out driving in a straight line...no slip angle to speak of....to each his own, now back to my Marguerita

An RA-1 is also not nearly as fast as a MPSC or Hoosier. Now, I have only drive RA-1s at full tread depth, and most say they get better as they wear. But at full depth, they are not even close to fast....more like a slightly sticky street tire.

On my car (82 911, ~2600 lbs wet), with victoracers:

I purchase victoracers heat cycled but not shaved.

They do not chunk when driven at full tread.

They will run out of tread before they will run out of heat cycles.

They get a LITTLE stickier as they wear, but nothing to write home about.

Also want to emphasize that driving them to the track is NOT a heat cycle, regardless of ambient temperature.

Cheers,

Jeff
