Default Recommendation for Racing Boots/Shoes

I have a wide (E or EE) foot and need to buy my first pair of racing shoes. Which manufacturer is best for a duck foot like mine. Thanks

Most driving shoes stretch. I have used Simpson for a few years and eventually the stretch too much and I replace them.

ditto.
I use the simpson high tops, and buy them 1 size smaller than normal, and try to stretch them before 1st event, by wearing them around house... but, I want them tight.

pretty much any race shoe should be fine. and I thiink they do help with heel and toe...

If I ran a 944/ 928 I'd get the speedway version with the heat sheld.

The new Puma Speed Cats high tops are amazing. Very conforming to your foot. Try a pair on, but be prepared to buy them as you won't want to take them off.

any one like the Piloti shoes?? do they work, or are they just trendy sneakers posing as driving shoes?

Closer to sneakers than driving shoes. The only way to make a decision about shoes is try a few different pair on. If there is no local race shop where you can do that, find a vendor amoung our sponsors, have them send you a couple different brands, and see what feels the best. Buy that pair, return the others.

I have the Puma's which I like very much. I also tried on and almost bought a pair of Oakley's. They have a very similar fit. The Piloti shoes have a much bulkier feel to them. I have a wide foot.

I have Pilotis and they are alright, but I would like something w/ more feel.

Do the Pumas have nomax?

I can't emphasize enough to go try on whatever you are looking at. I am surprised at how much they vary in sizing. even more than ski boots it seems. Puma's run at least a size smaller, sparco's are narrow and so on. A good set of shoes really helps the footwork. Good luck.

I wear a 14E (what is so difficult about heel/toe, i do it all of the time), so I look for the "least shoe" I can find. Size 14 Simpsons work well for me, as do the G-Force shoes.

I wear a 14 and I actually ended up buying a size 12 Simpson - the 13's were too big. The Simpsons will stretch out over time. If you're going to be doing any club racing or sanction time trials make sure you get nomex shoes.

AlpineStars here.

Comfortable for my normal width feet. Widened toe-box this year.

I like the Piloti's very much and I have found that their extra width and stiffness make it easier to heel-toe - I wear a 10 1/2. Now that I have just moved from a C4 to an SC -ABS to no ABS - I am thinking of getting something else with more feel but I will track the car the first time with the Piloti's and see how it works out. I like the Piloti's becasue you can wear them all day walking around the paddock between sessions without wearing them out or bothering your feet from the lack of arch support in typical racing shoes.

If your feet are wide - you'll need the Simpsons. The european models are all too narrow, and to get one wide enough - the shoes are long enough to make you look like WWF's Iron Sheik.

Love the Piloti's. They're strong enough to walk around in all day at the track without getting sore feet. Also, they work well for heel & toe applications. I don't believe the Puma Speed Cats are fire-proof.
