Default Spare parts you take to a race.

I have a 944S2 race car. I'm starting to travel further for some races. What spare parts do you guys think are most important to carry?

Thanks,

Don

After this last weekend, I'd have to say an extra axle/cv set up. Seriously though, I usually carry spare used rotors, pads, brake fluid, oil, wheels and tires. That's about it really. I don't think there is much else I could bring that I could do at the track really anyway.

I take a whole box of parts to avoid a spoiled weekend. Starter, alternator, P.S. pump, axle, all sensors, DME and KLR, MF and fuel computer (yea, one of each failed last year), lug nuts, oil drain plug, brake cooling duct, hose clamps, turbo electric cooling pump, K&N cleaner and oil for the filter, front teflon brake hoses, front wheel bearings and grease, wheel bearing caps (they do come off) and many additional parts that I can't recall right now.

Hope this helps some.

Don't forget a complete set of hoses! Saved me once and I helped fellow racers twice, one was just this past Sunday at the Mid Ohio race. I can't tell you how grateful the guy was.

Hubs are not a bad idea but cumbersome. Front/Rear wheel bearings. I bring several lug nuts but you would be surprised how few people have them...keep a good stock handy for stripping or losing.

DME relay, coil, rotor , cap, spark plugs, one set of wheel bearings, seals and grease for the front, front pads and fluid, one each front and rear bleed screw. Hoses that have two different end sizes. Small container of used bolts, washers and nuts.

Are you driving the car there or trailering?

A buddy of mine noticed a small windshield crack just before leaving for the 8hr VIR trip on his 993. I told him bring it and if it fails tech, we drive my car and pull parts off his as needed. He didn't even smile.... ( I think it was too graphic for him to even think about)

Park next to the largest trailer in the paddock than contains a car like yours.

Funny, my spare list usually compromises of things that have broken. I usually tell the shop to order two parts, one to fix the car and a spare for the future.

One of the best buys I've made was only $19.99 at Walmart. It was a tire air compressor. Many tracks do not have air or the air is on the other side of the paddock. I used to carry an air tank, but I always had to refill it because of me using it or people coming by asking to borrow it

Air compressor? I bring my Joe Blow floor bicycle pump. It only takes a few minutes to raise the pressure 4-6 pounds in a tire, and it does start conversations. (I also bring a quart of oil and new brake pads if the installed pads are less than about 3/4. But then not that much has started to break on my car, so far.)
