Default Hood prop for fiberglass hoods?

Just ordered a fiberglass hood for the cup car...I figured it would be smart to keep the original aluminum one intact...what does everyone use as a hood prop?

Griot's garage has a very cool telescoping aluminum hood prop, under $20 if I recall. I keep mine in the front of my 911.

Check it out.

Hey, Brant, not to rain on your GTC1 parade again (suspension thread), but I've been told that when queried PCA said a fiberglass hood is NOT allowed in GTC1.

I see no tangible performance advantage and it would be nice if we all could protect our aluminum hoods, but JC looked into it and was rejected by Club Racing Intergalactic.

I use an all natural, cellulose based, lathe turned, commercial/residential maintenance & cleaning extension device for my hood prop.

In other words, a wooden mop handle.

(perhaps this would be acceptable under PCA rules?)

I suspect as long as it is a Porsche aluminum hood that fits (993 and 964 use the same?) then I'm sure you're fine for GTC1. Again, I'm not entirely sure why PCA cares about the fiberglass hood, I had just heard that they specifically said "no" when asked if they could be used...

How much heavier is the steel hood?

IIRC, rennlist member (and 964 Cup owner as well) K964 located 6 new OEM aluminum hoods at one time....$1800 each.
