i tried costing DE's when it came down to a per session basis. basically, every time i go out on track for a 20-25minute run session it costs $50.

Amortize cost over 3 years:
engine rebuilds
tranny rebuilds

Then there is:
Insurance for car
Depreciation on car
Opportunity cost of car + money spent on hobby
Depreciation on tow vehicle, wear & tear on tow vehicle, etc...
Exactly why I can not justify a dedicated track car. I don't think I could ever get used to seeing that much money spending most of its time in a garage.

Then again, if we were practical people we would drive Hondas and Toyotas

Well if you sell it BEFORE you have to fix it, I figured out that I cost me around $20 per lap in the GT3, on average.

Wow you are setting yourself up for a few laughs at your expense on this one....

"....yeah, $20 per lap, and at the rate he drives his whole weekend wasn't but $300 "

I think this is about right for me also, $20 per lap.

I don't quite know what to make of that.

Don't run on the cheap if you don't have to. I am bored out of my mind with the car in hand.

Thanks Chris, it was a typo. I meant to say "it costs me", but since I am my own sponser (like most of us) then I guess that "I do cost me"!

Then you have to go racing. I was bored with my Carrera at DE's but never at a race...ever! There is always someone to run against.

Calulating the coats per Lap!! Too deep for me, if I ever did that ...

Wonder what impact weather and down time for repairs at the track would do to the cost. What about the increase in fuel cost ........

We all need to get to the track and burn some money..I mean fuel.. I mean money!

i just keep thinking...if i sat at home and held up $100 bills to a lighter all day it'd still be cheaper than a track weekend.

Yeah but you can look at anything that way. I think about how much more money I'd have if I would have if I had rented a wife and kids for the weekends instead of......well you know.

Wife says "We need new gutters on the house". I say "Okay get some prices". Next weekend at VIR the transmission goes. Wife says "Your Mistress wins again". Isn't being a track junkie great!

Actually, I did the math once and decided it cost me about $2/minute of track time
