By the way, am I wasting your time and bandwith by posting these updates? I don't mean this in a nasty way, I'm not looking for attention and I know this is a Porsche-based forum and I might be barking up the wrong tree, but I thought racing from a different perspective might bring some more insight?

It's just that this thread is viewed but doesn't get replies anymore. Should I continue, or can it? No sweat either way, just lemme know. Superkarts are kinda off-topic here anyway.

Cheers,
Pierre.

oh please keep it up - i used to race karts and its great to hear from someone who's still into it. plus superkarts are so "out there" that its neat to read about them cause chances are slim that i'll be driving one in the near future. plus most of the time im reading my jaw is dropped in awe so i don't know what to type =P

Nah, keep it up

I enjoy reading the updates and seeing new pictures of your kart. I dont reply since I am not familiar with karts really, but nevertheless, I love reading up on them. Keep it up!

I enjoy reading the reports! Do you know of any videos to download from these karts? I am curious to see what it looks like from the pilots view.

Hi Anders, yes I have a few links of vids, but I have to rush off to meeting now. I'll post 'em as soon as I get back.

Cheers,
Pierre.

Okay, here's one on-board vid from Vaughn Obhlidal's kart.

Vaughn O in action

First half of the vid is the opening lap around Zwartkops race track last year during a morning race. Vaughn in P3 with the Farah bros in the lead. Lap times were around 1'03" / 1'04". To put it into a Porsche perspective, a well sorted 993 / good driver combo is good for 1'07"s around this track.

Second half of the vid, Aldo Scribante. Vaughn got a cracker start but got nudged by Greg Farah on lap 2 and spun. I finished 4th in that race in my old kart. Lap times were around 1;06" / 1;07".

I'll put some more vids up soon.

Cheers,
Pierre.

Here's a race at Laguna Seca on board with Michael Kranz.

68.7 MB download but worth it if you want an idea of corner speeds in a superkart. Lap times were around 1'33"/34". Ex 500 Moto GP world champ Eddy Lawson who won the race was about ten seconds quicker in this race. The kart with the rollbar overtaking Kranz close to the end is Wayne Rainy, another Moto GP world champ, paralized from the chest down.

On a side note - Superkarts lack top end speeds on the long straights of US race tracks, hence the lap times are not all that impressive compared to fast tin tops, but at shorter tracks they are just as quick. At Zwartkops raceway here locally, my kart has done 1'01" in the hands of Veron Pappas, matching big V8 modified saloons, Mustangs, Corvettes, Vipers etc of our top national class, as well as Porsche 956 lap times in the local Porsche challenge.

Mental little shopping trolleys.

176mp/h is roughly 290km/h. I don't think a kart has ever reached that kinda top end in race over here. Generally speaking, top end speeds of 240 - 260km/h are more realistic for a 250 Superkart, methinks.

But it feels like 350km/h, that's for sure.
