Camera Mount
I hope all of you had a good holiday.
My inlaws bought us a handycam and no sooner did I have the box open I was trying to figure out the best way to put it in the car.
So here I am polling the great body of info that is Rennlist for some good ideas on how to mount it. I do not have a harness bar or cage in the car.
I found a mount that I liked but I wanted to see if any of you have a better solution.

Our PCA Region does not allow suctioncup mounts on track, inside or outside of the vehicle. I would get a harness bar or rollbar and use a B-K mount, as I do now.

Is there anyone here from the Carolina's region or SE to be more specific who knows whether suction mounts are allowed?

I don't think anyone allows the suction cup type or simple clamp mounts. most PCA regions fall back onto Club Race rules and you need a metal to metal with added strap mount to cover. The suction cup type mounts are normaly used in filming not formal racing. In an impact the cam is going to be flying around regsrdless of how many sucker cups the mount has. Look at the image of the SM31. In one image one cup is not even working and the other 5 have small areas of contact. You cannot produce more than 14.5 pounds per SQ inch of adheison with a sucker cup. At that point it pulls a full vacuum and any more it just pulls away. Add some heat to the small amount of trapped gas in the cup and they just fall off sometimes.
IO Port makes a mount that many folks use. If you don't have a bar to mount the cam to you can get a lipstick cam and velcro it where ever you like and stick the cam in the glove box with some foam around it.

He he he...enjoy the ride down the slippery slope
Handy cam>camera mount to mount cam>roll bar to mount the cam mount to>harnesses, since you now have the roll bar>racing seats, since you now have the harnesses>portable monitor for viewing footage at the track>generator for power to run the monitor>trailer to lug all the new equipment & car to track>new tow vehicle>more tools to fill trailer>second porsche for "dedicated" track car>and it never ends... ...nor would I want it too!!!
(and it's all your inlaws fault )

You just wrote what has been going through my head since I was at the track last.
Good I feel better now that I know I am not the only one.
