Default repair costs

I have some repair work on my 968 including mounting and refinish a door. Move all the guts of the old door to the new door. Remove the damaged rocker panel and replace with a new rocker panel section and repaint. Does anyone have any idea of what the cost might be to do this exclusive of parts.

Thanks, Mike

Thanks John!

The rocker was bent in to the roll cage and was going to be cut and replaced or straightened and reskinned, Is this a big deal?

Thanks again,

Mike

Depends on how bad it is mashed, and how nice you want the repair to be when it is done.

The door ain't that hard to do yourself. I got bashed exactly the same way at Barber in November. I am doing the rocker myself. The inside was the hardest, we welded an eyebolt to it and used a pry bar that was 4 1/2 feet long to pull it out. It will be full of bondo, and look very much like a beginner did it. That's because one did. My car is a race car only, and the paint is a mixture of Maaco, and spray cans, so I don't care. I cover it up with graphics. If you want yours for a street/track car, then you probably want to do it right. That's going to cost a bunch. A friend of mine did something with about the same amount of damage, and it cost him over $3,000.

Hey, by the way. I think a 944 door will fit on a 968. They are cheap, and plentiful. All you would have to do is change the door handle, and the mirror. As a matter of face Tod Patterson has one, I believe his email is Toddandcharity@peoplepc.com

Tod would know the details,(fit, what has to be changed, etc.) if that email is wrong, let me know, and I will check it. Tod knows both 944's and 968's very well.

Good luck

Bill

Thanks Bill:

The inner rocker structure was damaged. The quote so far is 2750 plus parts. The door was 500 used and the new rocker from Porsche was ~350 plus paint and misc. I wanted a job that was better than just a race job but not a concours job. I had expected about 1500 but then I don't do body work or know that much about it. Thanks for the imput.

I'll guarantee you can do better on that door, used from Tod. The things are stored in a shed at my mother-in-law's. I was going to take a mirror off one of them for my car, but Tod had one already off, so I got it. Anyway, when I looked at the door I am talking about, it is in great shape. You would at a minimum have to put your mirror and handle on. He sure ain't going to charge $500. Email him, it sure won't hurt.

Thanks Bill:

I believe at this point the job is mostly finished. The door was 400 for a pretty good and straight 968 door until UPS dropped it on one of the corners with shipping being 100. Hopefully I won't have any more track issues and no need to a bodyman for a while.

Thanks, Mike
